Background: Heart failure (HF) following acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is characterized by high mortality and disability rates, which highlights the need of timely and effective revascularization. Recent studies suggested the potential predictivity of biomarkers NT-proBNP, cTNT, PLR, NLR, and GDF-15 in cardiovascular events, but their value in HF patients post-AMI still require further verification. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify potent biomarkers for prognosticating the development of HF subsequent to AMI, and to devise early interception and therapeutic strategies.

Article Synopsis
  • An increasing number of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients are benefiting from a combination of immunotherapy and chemotherapy, but there's a lack of reliable methods to assess the treatment's effectiveness.
  • Researchers aimed to create a predictive model for the success of a PD-1 inhibitor and gemcitabine/cisplatin (GP) chemotherapy regimen using advanced imaging techniques and deep learning features.
  • The best-performing model, Tf_Radiomics+Resnet101, showed high accuracy in predicting treatment responses, potentially improving patient management in advanced NPC cases.

Article Synopsis
  • Rosmarinic acid (RA) shows promise as a treatment for radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis (RIPF) in mice, potentially reducing lung tissue damage after radiation therapy.
  • The study utilized various techniques, including mRNA sequencing and Western blotting, to reveal that RA inhibits fibroblast-to-myofibroblast transformation (FMT) by affecting exosomal signals from lung epithelial cells and altering tRNA modifications.
  • The mechanism involves RA decreasing the efficiency of sphingosine kinase 1 in lung fibroblasts, reducing PFKFB3 acetylation, and ultimately slowing down the glycolytic processes that contribute to RIPF.

Background: Radiotherapy is the primary treatment for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC); however, almost 20% of patients experience treatment failure due to radioresistance. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms of radioresistance is imperative. HOTAIRM1 is deregulated in various human cancers, yet its role in NPC radioresistance are largely unclear.

Background: This study aims to investigate the predictive value of the circulating blood cell count, including neutro-philto-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte (PLR), and thesystemic inflammation index (SII) for the development of severe oral mucositis (SOM) induced by radiation in patients undergoing radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).

Methods: In this retrospective study, 142 NPC patients were screened, and based on mucositis toxicity grade, they were categorized into two groups: SOM and nonSOM. Peripheral blood cell counts were conducted prior to Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).

In China and Southeast Asia, pre-fermented coconut water is commonly used for the production of nata de coco, a jelly-like fermented food that consists of bacterial cellulose (BC). The inherent natural fermentation process of coconut water introduces uncontrollable variables, which can lead to unstable yields during BC production. This study involved the collection of spontaneously pre-fermented coconut water over a five-month production cycle.

Grass carp reovirus (GCRV) causes devastating viral haemorrhagic disease in farmed grass carp (Ctenopharyngon idellus). As novel molecular probes, aptamers have been widely applied in rapid diagnosis and efficient therapies against virus or diseases. In this study, three single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) aptamers were selected against GCRV-infected CIK cells via SELEX (systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment technology).
