Background: Metabolic syndrome and obesity are risk factors for gallstones. However, these two factors often occur together, and few studies have focused on the association between metabolically healthy overweight/obesity (MHOW/MHO) and gallstones. We hypothesized that MHO individuals would be associated with the prevalence of gallstones.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) in non-overweight/obese people is insidiously associated with cardiovascular disease. Novel anthropometric indices can reflect central obesity better than the traditional anthropometric indices. Therefore, we hypothesize that these newly developed anthropometric indices can better identify MetS in non-overweight/obese people than conventional indices.

Background: Vitamin D plays a key role of anti-cancer process, however, the association of vitamin D level and its related genetic variants with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk and prognosis is not fully understood.

Methods: We enrolled 100 HCC patients and 8,242 health controls from Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital. Logistic regression model was used to calculate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% CI for HCC risk according to serum 25(OH)D concentration.

Objective: To develop a "knowledge-attitude-practice" questionnaire as an evaluating tool of foreigners' cognition on TCM treatment, so as to promote the internationalization of TCM.

Methods: The questionnaire was based on the "knowledge-attitude-practice" model and adjusted by expert consultation using the Delphi method. After conducting a survey among foreigners, Cronbach's and exploratory factor analysis were used to test the internal consistency reliability and structural validity of the questionnaire, respectively.

Background: This study investigated the relationships among the characteristics of colon polyps and potential risk factors, including metabolic condition, CEA level, uric acid level, and (Hp) infection status.

Method: Clinical data from patients who received colonoscopy were collected and analyzed, including patients' gender, age, polyp pathology, metabolic syndrome (MS) status, CEA level, uric acid level, and Hp infection status. Patients were divided into a polyp group and a control group based on whether they presented with colon polyps.

The aim of this study was to determine the association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and asymptomatic gallstones in a Chinese population. The study had a cross-sectional design and enrolled 7583 subjects who visited the physical check-up center at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital between 2009 and 2011. Colorimetric methods were used to measure the levels of cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), whereas fasting plasma glucose (FPG) level was measured using a dextrose-oxidizing enzyme method.

Aim: To assess the relationship between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with metabolic risk factors and brachial ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV).

Methods: A total of 8603 subjects (6662 males and 1941 females) were enrolled during an annual health check-up. Fatty liver was examined using a Philips HD 11 XE multi-function color Doppler diagnostic instrument, and baPWV was determined using a novel arteriosclerosis detection device.
