Objective: Patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) who are admitted to the intensive care unit often exhibit critical conditions; thus, early prediction of in-hospital mortality is crucial. In this study, we aimed to develop a reliable and easily promotable model for predicting the in-hospital mortality of critically ill patients with TBI using easily accessible indicators and validate the model using external data.

Methods: Patient data from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV 2.

Article Synopsis
  • Hydrogen bonding is important for stabilizing molecular structures but can hinder biomass resource utilization due to strong intermolecular bonds among biomass molecules.
  • A new strategy called "hydrogen bonds reconstruction" uses ternary deep eutectic solvents (DESs) to break and reform hydrogen bonds, enhancing the reactivity of biomass-derived compounds like 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF).
  • The DESs also activate the catalyst NaIMoO through an electron-transfer mechanism, improving its efficiency and enabling the nearly complete conversion of HMF to FFCA with a yield of 98%.

Colon cancer in patients with situs inversus totalis is rarely associated with dextrocardia, and chemotherapy is commonly used for treatment. Central venous access devices are used to administer intravenous fluids and chemotherapy in patients with colon cancer. Compared with peripherally inserted central catheters and Hickman-type tunneled catheters, totally implantable vascular access devices (TIVADs) are safer and more effective.

Risk stratification and prognosis evaluation of severe thrombocytopenia are essential for clinical treatment and management. Currently, there is currently no reliable predictive model to identify patients at high risk of severe thrombocytopenia. This study aimed to develop and validate a prognostic nomogram model to predict in-hospital mortality in patients with severe thrombocytopenia in the intensive care unit.

Herein, a hydrophilic graphene composite functionalized with glutathione (GSH) and L(+)-Cysteine (Cys) was prepared via a simple and fast synthesis route, which was named G@S@Au@GC. The combination attack with two different zwitterionic polymers resulted in enhanced adsorption sites for glycopeptides. The obtained G@S@Au@GC exhibited excellent performance on a low limit of detection (0.

Previous studies have shown that lactate/albumin ratio (LAR) can be used as a prognostic biomarker to independently predict the mortality of sepsis and severe heart failure. However, the role of LAR as an independent prognostic factor in all-cause mortality in patients with acute respiratory failure (ARF) remains to be clarified. Therefore, we retrospectively analyzed 2170 patients with ARF in Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care Database III from 2001 to 2012.

Background And Aims: Colorectal cancer (CRC) lacks obvious symptoms in the early stage of the disease, making it is easy to be misdiagnosed and remain undetected. Here, we explored the role of CD4 memory stem T cells (TSCM) in peripheral blood in the early screening and auxiliary diagnosis of CRC.

Materials And Methods: Patients diagnosed with a "colorectal mass" by colonoscopy, at the Dongyang People's Hospital (Zhejiang, China), between November 2020 and June 2021, were included in this prospective study.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) results in potentially harmful blood glucose fluctuations, affecting patient prognosis. This study aimed to explore the relationship between blood glucose-related indicators and in-hospital mortality in critically ill patients with AP. We extracted data on AP patients from the Multiparameter Intelligent Monitoring in Intensive Care III database.

Introduction: Endometrial carcinoma (EC) is the most common gynecologic carcinoma in developed countries and accounts for nearly 5% of carcinoma cases and more than 2% of deaths due to female carcinomas worldwide. Because of this reported risk, it is very important to diagnose and stage it accurately. Therefore, we investigated the staging accuracy of EC with contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS).

Neutral Cholesterol Ester Hydrolase 1 (NCEH1) is an enzyme involved in ether lipid metabolism, and the gene is overexpressed in a variety of tumors. However, its role in pancreatic cancer remains unknown. Therefore, we compared the gene transcription data of healthy and pancreatic cancer tissues using the Cancer Genome Atlas and Genotype-Tissue Expression databases.

A series of -alkyl pyridinium salts were synthesized and employed as metal-free catalyst for the selective oxidation of methyl aromatic hydrocarbon with molecular oxygen. The electronic effect of the substitutes was found to be an important factor for the catalytic performance. With the introduction of electron-donating substitute -N(CH), the conversion of -xylene and selectivity of -toluic acid could be simultaneously increased.

Background: Studies have shown that D-dimer levels are significantly correlated with the differential diagnosis and clinicopathological features of breast cancer. However, the results are currently limited and controversial. Therefore, we performed this meta-analysis to evaluate the relationship between D-dimer levels and breast cancer.

The direct C(sp2)-H hydroxylation of 2-arylpyridines catalyzed by normal palladium catalysts via interception of aldehyde autoxidation possesses a number of advantages, including convenient operating conditions, nontoxic and inexpensive aldehydes, and being economical in terms of steps and atoms. In this paper, we report a computational study of the mechanism of this catalytic process using density functional theory, revealing a novel catalytic cycle. We find that the rate-limiting step is C-H bond activation that occurs via a concerted metalation deprotonation mechanism, which is consistent with Guin's experimental kinetic isotope effect observations.

Objective: To study the clinical phenotype and gene mutation analysis of a hereditary abnormal fibrinogenemia family and explore its molecular pathogenesis.

Methods: The STA-R automatic hemagglutination analyzer to detect the proband and its family members (3 generations of 5 people) of prothrombin time(PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), thrombin time (TT), fibrinogen activity (Fg: C), D-dimer (D-D), fibrinogen and fibrin degradation products (FDPs), plasminogen activity (PLG: A); The plasma levels of Fg: C and fibrinogen (Fg: Ag) were measured by Clauss method and immunoturbidimetry respectively. All exons and flanking sequences of FGA, FGB and FGG genes of fibrinogen were amplified by PCR, and the PCR products were purified and sequenced for gene analysis.
