Backgrounds: A large proportion of patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) are resistant to a standard dose of antihistamine. Acknowledged biomarkers for identifying these patients have not been determined. The neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been considered as an important indicator of inflammation in chronic diseases.

Ferroptosis, a novel cell death mode driven by iron-dependent phospholipid (PL) peroxidation, has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatments of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and ischemic-reperfusion injury (IRI). PL peroxidation, the key process of ferroptosis, requires polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA)-containing PLs (PL-PUFAs) as substrates, undergoing a chain reaction with iron and oxygen. Cells prevent ferroptosis by maintaining a homeostatic equilibrium among substrates, processes, and detoxification of PL peroxidation.

The structural and digestive properties of indica rice starch-fatty acid complexes and the effects of lipoxygenase on the structural and digestive properties of the complexes were examined in this study. The complexes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The results showed that indica rice starch had the highest molecular chain order and the highest crystallinity, and the crystallization disappeared after gelatinization, and the formation of indica rice starch-fatty acid complexes promoted the transformation of starch crystal structure from A-type to V-type.

Multicellular organisms are composed of many tissue types that have distinct morphologies and functions, which are largely driven by specialized proteomes and interactomes. To define the proteome and interactome of a specific type of tissue in an intact animal, we developed a localized proteomics approach called Methionine Analog-based Cell-Specific Proteomics and Interactomics (MACSPI). This method uses the tissue-specific expression of an engineered methionyl-tRNA synthetase to label proteins with a bifunctional amino acid 2-amino-5-diazirinylnonynoic acid in selected cells.

However, chronic nicotine use is known to decrease food intake and body weight gain, suggesting that nicotine also affects central metabolic and appetite regulation. We recently showed that acute nicotine self-administration in nicotine-dependent animals produces a short-term increase in food intake, contrary to its long-term decrease of feeding behavior.

However, fabricating large-area uniform films using perovskite quantum dots is still very challenging due to the complex fluidic dynamics of the solvents. Here, we report a robust film-formation approach using an environmental-friendly binary-solvent strategy.

Here, using genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 screening, we identified that the enzymes involved in distal cholesterol biosynthesis have pivotal yet opposing roles in regulating ferroptosis through dictating the level of 7-dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC)-an intermediate metabolite of distal cholesterol biosynthesis that is synthesized by sterol C5-desaturase (SC5D) and metabolized by 7-DHC reductase (DHCR7) for cholesterol synthesis. We found that the pathway components, including MSMO1, CYP51A1, EBP and SC5D, function as potential suppressors of ferroptosis, whereas DHCR7 functions as a pro-ferroptotic gene.

The urgent need for improved treatments for opioid addiction necessitates a deeper understanding of its biological underpinnings, with genetic variations playing a crucial role in individual susceptibility to opioid use disorder (OUD) and influencing clinical practices. In this study, we leverage the genetic diversity of four rat strains (ACI/N, BN/NHsd, WKY/N, and F344/N) to examine the contribution of genetic factors to oxycodone metabolism and addiction-like behaviors.

To one-step-produce shaped NLMs with high efficiency, high controllability, and free of template, a facile microfluidic strategy named rotary flow shearing (RFS) is reported. A high-speed viscous shearing flow is provided by two counter-rotating rotors in the carrier fluid, inducing continuous pinch-off of liquid metal flowing from a capillary tube positioned in face of the slit between two rotors.

Smac mimetic compounds (also known as antagonists of IAPs) mimic the function of Smac/Diablo and sensitize cancer cells to TNF-induced apoptosis. However, the majority of cancer cells are resistant to Smac mimetic alone.

It has a poor prognosis, with approximately 20-30% of patients developing recurrent and/or metastatic diseases that is relatively high resistant to conventional therapy. Resisting cell death is a hallmark of cancer cells.
