Aims: The human Inhibitor of Differentiation-2 (hID2) protein is a promising candidate for the treatment of colitis. However, its relatively low molecular weight limits its clinical application. To extend the therapeutic half-life, an albumin-binding domain (ABD), known for its high affinity for human serum albumin (HSA), was fused to hID2, resulting in a recombinant ABD-hID2.

Hydrogen isotopically labeled compounds have extensive utility across diverse domains, especially in drug discovery and development. However, synthesis of the labeled compounds with exclusive site selectivity and/or high isotope incorporation is challenging. One widely employed method is heterogeneous palladium(0)-catalyzed (such as Pd/C) dehalogenative deuteration and tritiation with D/T gas.

Background: First-pass successful reperfusion (FPSR), defined as a successful/complete reperfusion achieved after a single thrombectomy pass, is predictive of favorable outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke with large-vessel occlusion. It is unknown whether intravenous tirofiban is effective in increasing the rate of FPSR in acute anterior large-vessel occlusion stroke.

Methods And Results: Patients who had acute large-vessel occlusion stroke presenting within 24 hours and underwent endovascular thrombectomy were analyzed from the RESCUE BT (Intravenous Tirofiban for Patients With Large Vessel Occlusion Stroke) clinical trial, of which the main analysis was neutral.

A novel surface plasmon resonance (SPR) refractive index (RI) sensor based on the D-type dual-mode photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed. The sensor employs a side-polished few-mode PCF that facilitates the transmission of the fundamental and second-order modes, with an integrated microfluidic channel positioned directly above the fiber core. This design minimizes the distance to the analyte and maximizes the interaction between the optical field and the analyte, thereby enhancing the SPR effect and resonance loss for improved sensing performance.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on the long-term survival and mortality factors in Chinese patients with primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS), tracking data from May 2016 to December 2021.
  • Out of 8588 patients, 274 deaths occurred during a median follow-up of 4 years, showing a higher mortality rate compared to the general population, with major causes linked to comorbidities like cardiovascular diseases and infections.
  • Factors increasing mortality included male sex, older age, interstitial lung disease, and specific blood conditions, while hydroxychloroquine use appeared to enhance long-term survival rates.

This paper presents an aptameric graphene nanosensor for rapid and sensitive measurement of arginine vasopressin (AVP) toward continuous monitoring of critical care patients. The nanosensor is a field-effect transistor (FET) with monolayer graphene as the conducting channel and is functionalized with a new custom-designed aptamer for specific AVP recognition. Binding between the aptamer and AVP induces a change in the carrier density in the graphene and resulting in measurable changes in FET characteristics for determination of the AVP concentration.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical effect of mixed nutrition and parenteral nutrition support on postoperative patients with esophageal cancer.

Method: By searching PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, CNKI, Wanfang and other databases, all the literatures until March 2024 about the comparison of randomized controlled Trial (RCT) of mixed nutrition and parenteral nutrition support in postoperative patients with esophageal cancer were screened. The inclusion criteria were that the patients were from randomized controlled trials or clinical trials in China, and the patients were all diagnosed with esophageal cancer by pathological biopsy.

In large-scale radiation exposure events, the ability to triage potential victims by the received radiation dosage is crucial. This can be evaluated by radiation-induced biological changes. Radiation-responsive mRNA is a class of biomarkers that has been explored for dose-dependency with methods such as RT-qPCR.

The diagnosis of primary aldosteronism (PA) is critical for determining treatment strategies. The aim of the present study was to investigate the clinical value of preoperative adrenal venous sampling (AVS) for determining the benefit of PA surgery. Patients diagnosed with PA at Liaocheng People's Hospital (Liaocheng, China) between January 2015 and December 2020 were selected and divided into two groups: Group A underwent adrenal computed tomography (CT) only, whereas Group B underwent adrenal CT and successful AVS.

Background: This meta-analysis assessed the efficacy of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) in the diagnosis of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.

Methods: The literature search was performed up to December 8, 2023, and included a comprehensive examination of several databases: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, and VIP. Diagnostic metrics sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio (PLR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and a summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) were determined using a bivariate model analysis.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most prevalent malignancy and the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Currently, CRC staging heavily relies on invasive surgical procedures for in vitro pathological analysis, which entails long detection cycles and increases the risk of metastasis. There is an urgent need for specific biomarkers to classify adenomas and cancers, while early in vivo staging detection could potentially reduce mortality and morbidity rates.

  • - The study addresses the environmental assessment challenges of agricultural organosilicon surfactants due to insufficient information on their active ingredients; specifically, it focuses on the adjuvant 'Jiexiaoli' identified as TSS-H, a type of hydroxy (polyethylene) propyl-heptamethyl trisiloxane.
  • - A purification method using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) resulted in TSS-H with over 96% purity, and a residual detection method for its oligomers in rice was developed with high recovery rates, indicating effective measurement.
  • - Experiments showed that TSS-H does not transfer between parts of rice plants, has quick degradation in leaves, and can be absorbed and transported in

Chinese black truffle () is a hypogenous fungus of great value due to its distinctive aroma. In this study, both transcriptome and physicochemical analyses were performed to investigate the changes of nutrients and gene expression in truffle fruiting bodies during cold storage. The results of physicochemical analysis revealed the active metabolism of fruiting bodies in cold storage, showing the decreased contents of protein and soluble sugar, the variations in both polyphenol oxidase activity and total phenol content, and the detrimental effect of reactive oxygen species production caused by heavy metals (cadmium and lead) in truffles.

  • A novel highly sensitive balloon-like fiber interferometer using an ethanol coating is developed, leveraging a Mach-Zehnder setup formed by bending a single-mode fiber inside a Teflon tube.
  • The optical sensor's sensitivity stems from the refractive index (RI) changes in ethanol solutions due to temperature variations, enabling temperature detection through interference spectrum shifts.
  • Experimental results reveal that a sensitive length of 20 mm yields the highest RI sensitivity (212.88 nm/RIU) and significantly improved temperature sensitivity (1.145 nm/°C), making it a promising low-cost option for precise temperature monitoring.

The mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor (c-Met) is a receptor tyrosine kinase linked to the proliferation, survival, invasion, and metastasis of several types of cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC), particularly when aberrantly activated. Our study strategically designs peptides derived from interactions between c-Met and the antibody Onartuzumab. By utilizing a cyclic strategy, we achieved significantly enhanced peptide stability and affinity.

Aptamers are short, single-stranded nucleic acids with high affinity and specificity for various targets, making them valuable in diagnostics and therapeutics. Their isolation traditionally involves a time-consuming and costly process called SELEX. While SELEX methods have evolved to improve binding and amplification, the crucial step of aptamer identification from sequencing data remains expensive and often overlooked.
