Precursors and catalysts play vital roles in chemical reactions. Considerable efforts have been devoted to the investigation of catalysts for graphene growth by chemical vapor deposition in recent years. However, there has been little research on precursors because of a lack of innovation in term of creating a controllable feeding method.

For the first time, hematite (α-FeO) crystals were electrochemically deposited over vertically aligned conductive zinc oxide nanorods (NR) to form a specially designed 3D heterostructure with a unique triple layer structure. The structure formed with a thin layer of ZnFeO sandwiched between the hematite and the ZnO, which forms a barrier to reduce the back migration of holes. Hence, the charge separation is significantly improved.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a serious complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) that negatively affects heart function, and the study investigates how icariin (ICA), a flavonoid from the Epimedium plant, can improve this condition.
  • The research involved creating a rat model of T2DM to observe the effects of ICA, noting that untreated rats exhibited significant heart issues and inflammation, while those treated with ICA showed notable improvements.
  • Results indicated that ICA treatment reduced harmful extracellular matrix proteins in heart tissue, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic option for managing DCM in humans with T2DM.

Cinnamaldehyde (CIN) is a promising replacement for chemical synthetic preservatives, which has exhibited effective antimicrobial activities in food applications. In this study we examined the antifungal efficiency of CIN against Aspergillus niger in vitro. In addition, we explored its mode of action and evaluated its application potential in bread preservation in situ.

Purpose: The aims of our study were to investigate the prognostic impact of the rate of preoperative serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9/bilirubin (CA19-9/BR) on patients with extrahepatic bile duct cancer.

Patients And Methods: We collected clinical data from 89 patients who underwent surgery for extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ECC) at Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January 2012 and December 2017. The Kaplan-Meier analysis for univariate analysis and the Cox proportional hazards models for multivariate analysis were used to determine possible independent prognostic factors.

A molecule-confined two-dimensional (2D) hybrid superlattice is emerging for uncovering the chemical properties as well as distinctive physical phenomenon arising from the interface electronic states. An efficient and convenient synthetic method represents an important precondition to implementing the superlattice in terminal applications and functional devices. Herein, we develop an approach of spontaneous molecular intercalation to obtain a TaS-NH hybrid superlattice through simple solution immersion processing at room temperature.

Objective: To explore the mechanism of catgut embedding at back- points on nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in rats based on IKK/IKB/NF-κB signaling pathway and downstream inflammatory factors.

Methods: Eighty SPF SD rats were selected, among them 10 rats were selected divided into a normal group (group A), and the remaining 70 rats were fed with high-fat diet to establish NASH model. At the end of 12 weeks, 10 rats were randomly selected to verify whether the model establishment was successful.

Rational designs of the conductive layer below photocatalytic films determine the efficiency of a photoanode for solar water oxidation. Generally, transparent conductive oxides (TCOs) are widely used as a conductive layer. In this mini review, the fundamentals of TCOs are explained and typical examples of nanoscale TCOs are presented for application in photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation.

Arsenic, a class I human carcinogen, is ubiquitously found throughout the environment and around the globe, posing a great public health concern. Notably, Bangladesh and regions of West Bengal have been found to have high levels (0.5-4600 μg/L) of arsenic drinking water contamination, and approximately 50 million of the world's 200 million people chronically exposed to arsenic in Bangladesh alone.

Objective: Due to the resistance of cancer cells, chemotherapy has been severely restricted. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has been broadly identified as the chemo-sensitizing agent and revertant of multidrug resistance owing to its pleiotropic characteristics; however, it has not been well interpreted. The purpose of this research was to identify the anticancer role of DHA and its combination with the chemotherapeutic agent Gefitinib in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

A method based on high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was developed for the determination of sodium picosulfate in enzyme products. Sodium picosulfate is a new slimming aid that is illegally added to food products. The existing analytical methods are not suitable for application to jellies and gel candies, thus triggering the need for developing a new method.

Altruistic punishment and reward have been proved to promote the evolution of cooperation in the public goods game(PGG), but the punishers and the rewarders have to pay a price for these behaviors and that results in overall loss of interest. In present work, probabilistic punishment and reward are introduced to PGG. Probabilistic punishment and reward mean that punishment and reward are executed with a certain probability.

High-throughput optical labeling technologies have become increasingly important with the growing demands for molecular detection, disease diagnosis, and drug discovery. In this thought, a series of CN-bridged coordination polymer encapsulated gold nanoparticles have been developed as a universal and interference-free optical label through a facile and auxiliary agent-free self-assembly route. Moreover, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) emissions of CN-bridge can be tuned flexibly by simple replacement of Fe/Fe with other metal ions relying on the synthesis of three Prussian blue analogues encapsulated gold nanoparticles (Au@PBA NPs).

Mass sensitivity is vital for quartz crystal microbalance (QCM)-based data analysis. The mass sensitivity distribution of QCMs may differ greatly depending on the shapes, thicknesses, sizes, and materials of the metal electrodes. This is not considered by the Sauerbrey equation, and has a large potential to cause errors in QCM-based data analysis.

The processes of enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) have been widely applied in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). However, meeting the increasingly stringent effluent discharge standards requires a more stable EBPR performance. Under the circumstances, the identification of genus Tetrasphaera as potential phosphate accumulating organisms (PAOs) has aroused much research interests on them.

Rechargeable magnesium batteries (rMBs) are promising as the most ideal further energy storage systems but lack competent cathode materials due to sluggish redox reaction kinetics. Herein, developed is an anionic Se-substitution strategy to improve the rate capability and the cycling stability of 2D CuS Se nanosheet cathodes through an efficient microwave-induced heating method. The optimized CuS Se (X = 0.

The aim of the present study was to identify predictive factors for cervical cancer (CC) progression using a multistage approach. The present study obtained data from 390 healthy women and 259 patients with cervical cancer between June 2012 and June 2017, and used a multiple stage re-analysis strategy for clinical detection of CC. A total of seven types of serum indices were used in the present study, including sugar chain antigen 125 (CA-125), sugar chain antigen 199 (CA-199), α fetoprotein (AFP), carcino- embryonic antigen, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), cholesterol and triglyceride (TG).

Background: Some of the non-criteria autoantibodies, especially non-conventional antiphospholipid (aPL) antibodies, were present with high prevalence in sporadic miscarriages and recurrent pregnant loss. However, whether these autoantibodies are associated with miscarriage patients without apparent causes remain unclear.

Methods: The subjects were recruited from the female patients visiting the Infertility Center at the Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from January 2017 to March 2018.
