Hydroxyprolines are highly abundant in nature as they are components of many structural proteins and osmolytes. Anaerobic degradation of -4-hydroxy-l-proline (t4L-HP) was previously found to involve the glycyl radical enzyme (GRE) t4L-HP dehydratase (HypD). Here, we report a pathway for anaerobic hydroxyproline degradation that involves a new GRE, -4-hydroxy-d-proline (t4D-HP) C-N-lyase (HplG).

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound manifestations of synchronous combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma: A case report.

Background: Synchronous combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (CHC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is very rare, with few literature reports and poor clinical outcomes associated with the disorder. Surgical resection is the main treatment, which makes the preoperative diagnosis very important. However, due to imaging manifestations overlapping with HCC, diagnosis of this type of synchronous cancer is challenging and it tends to be misdiagnosed as multiple HCC.

One-Hour Post-Load Plasma Glucose Levels are Associated with Early Arterial Stiffness in Subjects with Different Glucose Tolerance.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between one-hour post-load plasma glucose levels and early arterial stiffness in subjects with different glucose tolerance.

Methods: This case-control study included 57 subjects with normal glucose tolerance, 38 subjects with pre-diabetes, and 30 subjects with type 2 diabetes. All subjects underwent an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) with 75 g of oral anhydrous glucose at 8:00 AM.

Genetic analysis of 18 families with tuberous sclerosis complex.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is mainly caused by variants in TSC1 and TSC2, which encodes hamartin protein and tuberin protein, respectively. Here, we report clinical and molecular characteristics of 18 families with TSC. High-throughput DNA sequencing was employed to detect variants in all the exons and flanking region of TSC1 and TSC2.

However, the underlying character and mechanism of circZNF609 in cisplatin chemosensitivity and bladder cancer (BCa) development were unknown.

A Correlational Study on Cardiopulmonary Endurance in Male Patients with New-Onset Type 2 Diabetes.

Background: Cardiopulmonary exercise tests (CPETs) are widely used non-invasive and reliable functional evaluation methods. This study investigated the correlation between cardiopulmonary endurance indices and plasma glucose levels and abdominal visceral fat in males with new-onset type 2 diabetes.

Methods: A total of 136 male individuals, who had been treated in the First Hospital of Qinhuangdao City, were selected to form a new-onset type 2 diabetes group (66 cases) and a control group (70 cases); individuals were divided into three groups (Q1, Q2, and Q3) from low to high according to their anaerobic threshold (AT) oxygen uptake (VO), AT VO/kg (VO per kg of body weight), peak VO, peak VO/kg, AT heart rate (HR), peak HR, and HR recovery after 1 minute.

Automatic Multichannel Electrocardiogram Record Classification Using XGBoost Fusion Model.

There is an increasing demand for automatic classification of standard 12-lead electrocardiogram signals in the medical field. Considering that different channels and temporal segments of a feature map extracted from the 12-lead electrocardiogram record contribute differently to cardiac arrhythmia detection, and to the classification performance, we propose a 12-lead electrocardiogram signal automatic classification model based on model fusion (CBi-DF-XGBoost) to focus on representative features along both the spatial and temporal axes. The algorithm extracts local features through a convolutional neural network and then extracts temporal features through bi-directional long short-term memory.

Influence of IOL Weight on Long-Term IOL Stability in Highly Myopic Eyes.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the influence of intraocular lens (IOL) weight on long-term IOL stability in highly myopic eyes.

Materials And Methods: A total of 205 highly myopic cataract eyes of 205 patients implanted with the MC X11 ASP (Group A, 86 eyes) or 920H IOL (Group B, 119 eyes) were included in this retrospective study. Eyes were divided into 3 subgroups according to the IOL power: low (≥-5 to <5 D), medium (≥5 to <14 D), and high (≥14 D) IOL power.

Laser-pulse-induced temperature, thermal stress, and crater morphology effect during multipulse nanosecond laser manufacturing.

We construct a numerical model for multipulse laser drilling. It is found that the previous laser-pulse-induced temperature accumulation, thermal stress occurrence, and crater morphology change promote subsequent pulse laser drilling. Among them, previous laser-pulse-induced temperature accumulation contributes significantly to the drilled crater depth when the workpiece temperature is higher than its melting point just before the subsequent laser pulse irradiation, especially in a short pulse interval condition.

Background: Treatment choices for patients with bladder cancer (BCa) are determined by the presence of muscular invasion. The precise segmentation of the inner and outer walls (IW and OW), as well as the bladder tumor (BT), is crucial for improving computer-aided diagnosis of muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC).

Purpose: To propose a novel deep learning-based model to improve the segmentation accuracy of the IW, OW, and BT, which can be useful in clinical practice.

Catalytic Transfer Hydrogenation of 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural with Primary Alcohols over Skeletal CuZnAl Catalysts.

Catalytic transfer hydrogenation (CTH) with alcohols has been increasingly employed as effective tool for biomass upgrading, however, relying predominantly on secondary alcohols. Herein, for the first time skeletal CuZnAl catalysts were employed for the activation of a primary alcohol, ethanol, for the hydrogenation 5-hydroxymethylfurfual (HMF) to 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF) under a mild condition. The catalysts were extensively characterized to reveal the structure characteristics and surface compositions.

Distributed Consensus Seeking With Different Convergence Performance Requirements: A Unified Control Framework.

In this article, we investigate distributed consensus seeking with multiple convergence performance requirements for single-integrator multiagent systems under undirected graphs. A unified distributed control framework is proposed to ensure consensus or practical consensus as well as performance time requirements, which contains most existing complex protocol schemes as special cases. In the proposed framework, three functions with specific properties in the controller play different roles and can be freely designed to achieve desired convergence performances, which guarantee a high-level scalability for multiple control requirements in addition to convergence time.

Cavernous hemangioma of an intrapancreatic accessory spleen mimicking a pancreatic tumor: A case report.

Background: Intrapancreatic accessory spleen (IPAS) is an uncommon condition, with the majority of cases presenting as solid lesions. Thus, this condition is frequently misdiagnosed as pancreatic solid neoplasm. Moreover, splenic cavernous hemangioma is a rare disorder, whereas lesions with a cystic appearance arising from IPAS have not been reported.

External validation of Pentafecta in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical cystectomy: results from a high-volume center.

Methods: From November 2013 to December 2020, muscle invasive Bladder Cancer (MIBC) and non-muscle invasive Bladder Cancer (NMIBC) patients who received LRC and urinary diversion were retrospectively analyzed. Pentafecta was defined as meeting five criteria: negative soft margin, ≥ 16 lymph nodes (LNs) removed, major complications free, urinary diversion related sequelae free and clinical recurrence free within 1 year.

Background: The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the accuracy of two-dimension real-time shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) for the diagnosis of steatohepatitis and fibrosis in a cohort patients confirmed nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD) by liver biopsy, and compare with four noninvasive fibrotic biomarker scores (NFS, FIB-4, BARD and APRI).

Methods: 116 NAFLD patients and 23 normal control group were enrolled. The diagnostic performance of 2D-SWE and four noninvasive fibrotic biomarker scores was evaluated based on histopathological inflammation grades and fibrosis stages (F) according to Kleiner/Brunt et al.
