CD8 T cell spatial distribution in the context of tumor microenvironment (TME) dictates the immunophenotypes of tumors, comprised of immune-infiltrated, immune-excluded and immune-desert, discriminating "hot" from "cold" tumors. The infiltration of cytotoxic CD8 T cells is associated with favorable therapeutic response. Hitherto, the immunophenotypes of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) have not yet been comprehensively delineated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFEsophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains a global health challenge. Circadian clock and Maternal embryonic leucine zipper kinase (MELK) play a key role in tumorigenesis. However, a link between circadian clock dysregulation and MELK function in the occurrence and development of ESCC remains elusive.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFerroptosis has been shown to play a crucial role in preventing cancer development, but the underlying mechanisms of dysregulated genes and genetic alternations driving cancer development by regulating ferroptosis remain unclear. Here, we showed that the synergistic role of ELF3 overexpression and PTEN deficiency in driving lung cancer development was highly dependent on the regulation of ferroptosis. Human ELF3 (hELF3) overexpression in murine lung epithelial cells only caused hyperplasia with increased proliferation and ferroptosis.

Inhibiting ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and promoting the formation of neovascular networks are critical preventive strategies. Platelet-derived small extracellular vesicles (PL-sEV) are nanocarriers of growth factors that provide an alternative to clinically used platelet-rich plasma and platelet lysates, offering higher growth factor concentrations and lower immunogenicity.

The present study aims to investigate the effects of endogenous protein (rice protein, RP) and exogenous proteins (corn protein, CP, and wheat protein, WP) on the physicochemical properties of rice starch under the action of transglutaminase (TG). The findings indicate that, the interactions between exogenous proteins with rice starch are relatively weak. However, with the catalysis of TG, both endogenous and exogenous proteins tightly encapsulate rice starch granules, forming a dense microporous network structure.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Pueraria montana (PM) is a Chinese medicinal herb used to treat alcoholism, inflammation, swelling, and anti-apoptosis. However, the mechanisms and active compounds of PM remain poorly understood.
Aim Of The Study: Chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can affect multiple joints.
Background: Puberty onset signifies the beginning of sexual maturation and reproductive phase in poultry indeed, and plays an essential role in genetics and breeding. Studying gonadal development is one of the important approaches to exploring the genetic mechanism of puberty onset.
Result: In our study, the phenotype data of the testes and ovaries of the 120-day-old Nonghua duck showed a large coefficient of variation, indicating that their gonads were in different developmental states.
Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Wu Mei Wan (WMW) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula with a long-standing history in Chinese medicine, valued for its therapeutic properties. However, its potential anti-cancer effects, especially against colorectal cancer (CRC), have not been fully elucidated.
Aim Of The Study: This study aims to investigate the effects of WMW on colorectal cancer stemness and to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms, focusing on the modulation of Sox9 expression via the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway.
Fluoride affects neurodevelopment in children. In this study, we examined the effects of developmental exposure to sodium fluoride (NaF) on hippocampal neurogenesis in rats. Dams were given drinking water containing NaF at 0 (untreated controls), 30 or 100 ppm from gestational day 6 to day 21 post-delivery upon weaning, and offspring were reared until postnatal day (PND) 77.

The dynamic changes in macrophage subpopulations significantly impact the outcomes of cancer immunotherapy. Hence, identifying additional macrophage-related biomarkers is essential for enhancing prognostic predictions in colorectal cancer (CRC) immunotherapy.

Methods: After 1 week of acclimatization, 10 rats were randomly selected from 50 Wistar male rats as the normal group, and the rest rats were fed with high-fat diet for 8 weeks to establish the obese model. The successfully modeling rats were randomly divided into model group, EA group and sham EA group, with 10 rats in each group.
The heterotrophic nitrification-aerobic denitrification (HNAD) is a new biological denitrification technology, the present study isolated a new HNAD strain named Cupriavidus metallidurans TX6 with heavy metal resistance. The gene expression, electron transport, enzyme activity and nitrogen removal property of strain TX6 were studied with different influencing factors. Strain TX6 has five nitrogen metabolism pathways (NH → NHOH → NO → NO → NH → GOGAT/GDH; NH-N → NHOH → NO → NO → N; NH → NHOH → NO → NO → NO; NO → NO → NH → GOGAT/GDH; NO→ NO → NH → GOGAT/GDH).

However, emotion is a complex psychological phenomenon, and there are various emotion classification schemes. Which one is suitable for textual emotion analysis?
Methods: We proposed a framework for evaluating emotion classification schemes based on manual annotation experiments.
Background: Tumor neoantigen peptide-based vaccines, systemic immunotherapies that enhance antitumor immunity by activating and expanding antigen-specific T cells, have achieved remarkable results in the treatment of a variety of solid tumors. However, how to effectively deliver neoantigens to induce robust antitumor immune responses remains a major obstacle.
Results: Here, we developed a safe and effective neoantigen peptide delivery system (neoantigen-ferritin nanoparticles, neoantigen-FNs) that successfully achieved effective lymph node targeting and induced robust antitumor immune responses.
The environmental contaminant perchlorate raises concern for hypothyroidism-related brain disorders in children. This study investigated the effects of developmental perchlorate exposure on hippocampal neurogenesis and oligodendrocyte (OL) development. Pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were administered with ammonium perchlorate (AP) in drinking water at concentrations of 0 (control), 300, and 1000 ppm from gestation day 6 until weaning [postnatal day (PND) 21].

There is a lack of comprehensive analyses that consider the environmental and health burdens of manufacturing processes for ISI enterprises. Here, we present an integrated emission inventory that encompasses air pollutants and CO emissions from 811 ISI enterprises and five key manufacturing processes in 2020.

However, these strategies rely on specific lysosome-trafficking receptors to facilitate lysosomal delivery, which may raise resistance concerns due to intrinsic cell-to-cell variation in receptor expression and mutations or downregulation of the receptors. Another challenge is establishing a universal platform applicable in multiple scenarios.
