Topological defects on colloids rotating in nematic liquid crystals form far-from-equilibrium structures that perform complex swim strokes in which the defects periodically extend, depin, and contract. These defect dynamics propel the colloid, generating translation from rotation. The swimmer's speed and direction are determined by the topological defect's polarity and extent of elongation.

Smoke injection height is a key driving factor for plume transport, which determines the lifetime of smoke aerosol in the atmosphere, transport path and diffusion along with the wind, and impacts on atmospheric environment. In this study, raw data obtained from the latest multi-angle imaging spectroradiometer (MISR) plume height project was extracted and analzyed. The variation of smoke injection heights of wildfire in China was investigated with statistical analysis methods.

Objective: To synthesize a targeted drug delivery system for 5-fluorouracil (5Fu) using sulfadiazine (SF) as a carrier with reduced side-effects and strong antitumor activity.

Methods: SF-poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) conjugate was initially synthesized. 5Fu was subjected to reaction with trichloromethyl chloroformate to prepare chloroformyl 5Fu, which was linked to a spacer hydroxyl group of PEG that served as a macromolecular linking arm between SF and 5Fu.
