Background And Purpose: Breast cancer is now recognized as a clinically heterogeneous disease with a wide spectrum of epidemiological and clinicopathologic features. We aimed to evaluate whether epidemiological and clinicopathologic features are associated with the histological tumor grade of breast carcinomas in Western China.

Methods: We retrospectively collected data from the Western China Clinical Cooperation Group and assessed associations between clinicopathologic factors and histological tumor grade in 8619 female breast cancer patients.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explored the link between mammographic calcifications and the characteristics of breast cancer patients in Western China, using data from over 7,300 women diagnosed between 2011 and 2016.
  • Patients were categorized into two groups: those with masses alone and those with masses plus calcifications, revealing that the latter group had larger tumors and more aggressive traits.
  • Women in the calcification group were more likely to receive chemotherapy and HER2-targeted therapies, while those without calcifications were typically treated with endocrine therapy.

Nodular goiter affects numerous individuals worldwide. As the thyroid enlarges, it normally extends into the mediastinum as a result of its anatomical location under the investing layer of the deep cervical fascia. The present study reports the rare case of a 76-year-old man who suffered from a goiter with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma, who presented as a subcutaneous partially cystic with solid areas lesion over the chest.

Alisertib (ALS) is an investigational potent Aurora A kinase inhibitor currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of hematological and non-hematological malignancies. However, its antitumor activity has not been tested in human breast cancer. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ALS on the growth, apoptosis, and autophagy, and the underlying mechanisms in human breast cancer MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 cells.

Danusertib (Danu) is a pan-inhibitor of Aurora kinases and a third-generation breakpoint cluster region-Abelson murine leukemia viral oncogene homolog 1 (Bcr-Abl) tyrosine kinase inhibitor, but its antitumor effect and underlying mechanisms in the treatment of human breast cancer remain elusive. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Danu on the growth, apoptosis, autophagy, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and the molecular mechanisms in human breast cancer MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 cells. The results demonstrated that Danu remarkably inhibited cell proliferation, induced apoptosis and autophagy, and suppressed EMT in both breast cancer cell lines.

Recent studies have demonstrated that SMG-1, a newly characterized member of the family of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-related protein kinases (PIKKs), is involved in tumorigenesis as a new tumor suppressor. However, its expression and significance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain obscure. The present study investigated SMG-1 expression in HCC tissue specimens, aimed at defining the association with clinicopathological significance.

3-Substituted 4-quinolones were synthesized using a one-pot metal-free strategy in moderate to quantitative yields. Carried out in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) via a sequential addition of materials, the methodology is tolerant of a wide range of functional groups and applicable to library synthesis.
