Congenital long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a rare hereditary cardiac disorder characterized by prolongation of the QT interval on electrocardiogram (ECG), predisposing affected individuals to life-threatening arrhythmias. We present a case of a newborn with congenital LQTS and 2:1 atrioventricular (AV) block who presented with bradycardia and QT prolongation. Continuous intravenous lidocaine infusion was initiated, because of hypoglycemia with beta-blockers, resulting in stabilization of AV conduction and prevention of malignant arrhythmias.

In order to identify genotype variants of the IL-1β, IL-4, and VEGF genes in 40 Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded (FFPE) samples with BC and 10 FFPE samples from healthy women's breast tissue, Sanger sequencing was used.

There is increasing popularity in the use of herbal medicine for different ailments as these natural products are considered safer than conventional medicines; however, their use in dosage exceeding prescribed limits can result in serious toxic side effects. We present a case of a 63-year old male who presented with complaints of restlessness, nausea, vomiting and tingling sensation on his body and ECG evidence of bi-directional ventricular tachycardia. On interrogation, it was revealed that the patient had self-prepared and consumed large quantity of an herbal medication (containing toxic aconite roots) as therapy for erectile dysfunction resulting in a fatal outcome.

Molecular Signatures of Tumour and Its Microenvironment for Precise Quantitative Diagnosis of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: An International Multi-Cohort Diagnostic Validation Study.

Background: Heterogeneity in oral potentially malignant disorder (OPMD) poses a problem for accurate prognosis that impacts on treatment strategy and patient outcome. A holistic assessment based on gene expression signatures from both the tumour cells and their microenvironment is necessary to provide a more precise prognostic assessment than just tumour cell signatures alone.

Methods: We reformulated our previously established multigene qPCR test, quantitative Malignancy Index Diagnostic System (qMIDS) with new genes involved in matrix/stroma and immune modulation of the tumour microenvironment.

The relationship between CT severity infections and oxygen saturation in patients infected with COVID-19, a cohort study.

Introduction: Thin-section chest computed tomography is an important diagnostic test and utilized to determine the severity of lung involvement in COVID-19 pneumonia. The goal of this study is to examine the relationship between CT severity and the oxygen saturation level of individuals with COVID-19.

Method: This is a single-center retrospective study of COVID-19 patients that were admitted at a COVID-19 hospital.

Cancer Incidence in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq: Results of a Seven-Year Cancer Registration in Erbil and Duhok Governorates.

Introduction: There are limited published data regarding the recent incidence trends of cancer in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Methods: The present study assessed the epidemiological estimates of cancer incidence, as well providing a projection of future cancer trends in the upcoming decade by analysing the population-based cancer registry between 2013 and 2019, in both the Erbil and Duhok governorates. A retrospective analysis was performed on data retrieved from the Medical Statistics Department at the Ministry of Health, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Positional syncope occurring just at the right time in a patient with a permanent pacemaker: A case report.

We present an unusual case of positional syncope occurring years after pacemaker implantation. Syncope was caused by a pacemaker lead fracture, which resulted from subclavian crush syndrome. The syncope occurred incidentally during hospital admission and was timely diagnosed using an integrated approach of history taking, examination findings, device interrogation and radiographic parameters.

Association between the serum concentrations and mutational status of IL-8, IL-27 and VEGF and the expression levels of the hERG potassium channel gene in patients with colorectal cancer.

The present study aimed to determine the diagnostic value of the serum levels and mutational status of IL-8, IL-27 and VEGF, and the expression levels of human ether-a-go-go-related gene (hERG) in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). The serum concentrations were determined using the ELISA technique and genotype variations of IL-8, IL-27 and VEGF were examined using Sanger sequencing, and the expression levels of hERG, which encodes a potassium channel, were determined by quantitative PCR, in blood and tissue samples obtained from 80 patients with CRC and 80 healthy individuals. The results of the present study revealed that the percentage of granulocytes and serum concentrations of carcinoembryonic antigen, IL-8 and IL-27 were significantly increased, whereas the percentage of lymphocytes was decreased in patients with CRC.

Introduction: The present study aimed to determine the alterations in the serum levels of tumor markers used to evaluate cardiac, renal and liver function, and detect the interleukin (IL)-18 rs1946518 polymorphism in breast (BC), colorectal (CRC) and prostate cancer (PCa) patients.

Methods: Blood samples were collected from 65 female BC, 116 CRC, 79 PCa and 88 myocardial infarction (MI) patients, and 110 healthy individuals to determine the concentration of tumor and cardiac markers. Furthermore, the IL-18 rs1946518 polymorphism was assessed using amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS)-PCR.

Congenital venous anomalies are uncommon, incidental findings encountered during adult interventional electrophysiology procedures. Femoral venous access is conventionally used during cardiac electrophysiology studies to gain access to the heart. The chance finding of an inferior vena cava anomaly may preclude the performance of these procedures from the femoral approach.

Co-culturing corncob-immobilized yeasts on orange peels for the production of pectinase.

Objective: Pectinase is an industrially important enzyme which is employed in an array of commercial processes; cost of production, however, impedes its application. The main objective of this study was to design a two-layered strategy for the reduction of production cost, firstly by using a yeast co-culture in an immobilized form on an agricultural waste matrix, corncob (CB), secondly by utilizing orange peels (OP) as substrate.

Results: Two yeast strains, Saccaromyces cerevisiae MK-157 and Geotrichum candidum AA15 were cultivated as mono-, as well as, co-culture after immobilization on CB and pectinase production was monitored.

Angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE-2) is one of the most important receptors on the cell membrane of the host cells (HCs) which its interaction with spike protein (SP) with a furin-cleavage site results in the SARS-CoV-2 invasion. Hence, in this review, we presented an overview on the interaction of ACE-2 and furin with SP.

The PMNSs were synthesized by hydrothermal method and their physicochemical properties were examined by FE-SEM, TEM, DLS, TGA, XRD investigations.

Clinical correlation of opposing molecular signatures in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

Background: The concept of head and neck cancers (HNSCC) having unique molecular signatures is well accepted but relating this to clinical presentation and disease behaviour is essential for patient benefit. Currently the clinical significance of HNSCC molecular subtypes is uncertain therefore personalisation of HNSCC treatment is not yet possible.

Methods: We performed meta-analysis on 8 microarray studies and identified six significantly up- (PLAU, FN1, CDCA5) and down-regulated (CRNN, CLEC3B and DUOX1) genes which were subsequently quantified by RT-qPCR in 100 HNSCC patient margin and core tumour samples.

Methods: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study from January 2002 till December 2016 conducted at National Institute of Cardiovascular diseases in Karachi, Pakistan. The sample included 157 patients with manifesting Wolff Parkinson White (WPW) Syndrome on a 12-lead surface ECG.

Background: Longstanding severe rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS) is associated with changes in the atrial chamber dimensions. It is not known whether there is an increased thickness of the inter-atrial septum (IAS) in patients with severe rheumatic mitral stenosis.
