Methods: We describe the history, processes, and structure of the Vital Statistics Section of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (the curator of the NMR database).
Background: Recent estimates of hypertension in Panama remain unknown. We aim to describe the variation in prevalence and unawareness of hypertension in two Panamanian provinces using two different cross-sectional population-based studies and to investigate risk factors associated with hypertension unawareness.
Methods: Data were derived from a sub-national study conducted in the provinces of Panama and Colon (PREFREC-2010 [2,733 participants]) and from a nationally representative study (ENSPA-2019), in which we restricted our analyses to the same provinces (4,653 participants).
Poor medication adherence is a public health concern leading to a large burden of cardiovascular disease among persons with hypertension. Using data from 3281 persons with diagnosed hypertension (N = 622,581) from the Panamanian National Health Survey (ENSPA) collected in 2019, we assessed the national prevalence of low-moderate medication adherence in hypertensive individuals using the 4-scale Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (4-MMAS) and identifying gender-specific associated factors. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to estimate the association between possible risk factors and low-moderate medication adherence with odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) stratified by gender.

Materials And Methods: In the in vitro study, murine fibroblast cells (L929) were cultured for 1, 3, and 5 days with silicone membranes of three different textures: nanotextured, microtextured, and silicone foam. In the in vivo study, a total of 30 male rats (Rattus, norvegicus, albinos, Wistar) were distributed into three groups (10 animals per group), with 2 implants in each rat: nanotextured silicone gel breast implants group, microtextured silicone gel breast implants group, and silicone gel breast foam implants group.
High-fat diets lead to accumulation of body fat that is associated with the onset of insulin resistance and type II diabetes mellitus. On the other hand, photobiomodulation (PBM) is an electrophysical resource that interacts with cells, stimulating mitochondrial respiration, increasing ATP production, reducing key inflammatory mediators, inhibiting apoptosis, and stimulating angiogenesis. However, little is known about its therapeutic effectiveness on the development of diabetes in diet-induced obese mice.

This study aimed to investigate femoral morphological characteristics of lack of dystrophin in MDX mice, considering that this model, different from DMD patient, is not influenced by corticosteroids administration and limited ambulation.
Materials And Methods: Proximal femur of male 16-week-old Control and MDX mice were submitted to histological, morphometric (volume density of articular cartilage, compact bone, trabecular bone and bone marrow; articular cartilage layers area; articular cartilage cell area), and immunohistochemistry analysis for RUNX-2, RANK-L, MMP-2, MMP-9, Caspase-3 and KI-67.
Objectives: The aim of the study was to study the Janus kinase/tyrosine kinase-activated transduction factor (JAK/STAT) signaling pathway and myogenesis on the masseter muscle after sleep deprivation and to investigate the role of stress in this scenario.
Subjects And Methods: A total of 18 male Wistar rats were divided into the following groups: control (n = 6): animals were not submitted to any procedures, and paradoxical sleep deprivation and vehicle (PSD + V; n = 6): animals were subjected to PSD for 96 h and (PSD + MET; n = 6): animals were subjected to PSD for 96 h with administration of metyrapone. Paradoxical sleep deprivation was performed by the modified multiple platforms method.
Background: Panama has the lowest overall prevalence of tobacco use in the Americas, however rates are almost three times higher in the indigenous territory of Kuna Yala compared with the national average. Most people who smoke started during adolescence, making this a key period for tobacco control efforts.
Objective: We aimed to examine tobacco access and use among adolescents (13 to 15 years old) in Kuna Yala compared with nationwide Panama using data from the 2017 Global Youth Tobacco Survey, a standardised international tool for assessing key tobacco control indicators among adolescents.

Methods: In this study, 18 animals were randomly distributed into three groups: control group (CTL, n = 6), SD for 96 hours (SD96, n = 6), and SD for 96 hours and more 96 hours of sleep recovery (SD96 + R, n = 6).
Results: In the histopathological analysis, SD 96 was able to induce inflammation in masseter and temporal.

The relationship between a panel of biomarkers and the DMD outcome is necessary to indicate of disease progression and response to rehabilitation programs.
