Article Synopsis
  • Lung cancer is the most common type of cancer in the Asia-Pacific region, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) making up about 85% of cases, and a significant mutation rate of 40-60% in Asian patients with lung adenocarcinoma.
  • Third-generation EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) have improved treatment for NSCLC with mutations, but managing resistance to these drugs is still a major issue with no standardized guidelines.
  • A set of recommendations has been developed, integrating international guidelines and regional clinical experiences, to help healthcare providers classify resistance, conduct clinical testing, and devise treatment strategies for patients struggling with resistance to third-generation EGFR-TKIs.

Article Synopsis
  • - Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-related condition with unclear causes, and the protein irisin, linked to exercise, may play a role in its development and the health of the placenta.
  • - Research shows that pregnant individuals with preeclampsia have lower irisin levels, which appear early and correlate with other health indicators like blood pressure and protein levels.
  • - Increasing irisin levels in lab studies improved certain functions of trophoblast cells (which support embryo development), while lower levels led to symptoms similar to preeclampsia in animal models.

In deep-space optical communication systems, precise pointing and aiming of the laser beam is essential to ensure the stability of the laser link. In this paper, an adaptive compound control system based on adaptive feedforward and Proportional-Integral-Differentiation (PID) feedback is proposed. The feedforward controller is stabilized using Youla-Kucera (YK) parameterization.

Two-dimensional (2D) ion crystals may represent a promising path to scale up qubit numbers for ion trap quantum information processing. However, to realize universal quantum computing in this system, individually addressed high-fidelity two-qubit entangling gates still remain challenging due to the inevitable micromotion of ions in a 2D crystal as well as the technical difficulty in 2D addressing. Here we demonstrate two-qubit entangling gates between any ion pairs in a 2D crystal of four ions.

Introduction: Osimertinib, the 3rd generation EGFR-TKI, has emerged as standard first-line treatment for patients with advanced EGFR mutated nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients with exon 21 L858R mutation showed lower efficacy with EGFR-TKIs than those with 19Del mutation, even with osimertinib, it remains an unmet medical need to further improve the efficacy in L858R population. We present the rationale and design for FLAIR (NCT04988607), which will investigate the efficacy and safety of osimertinib plus bevacizumab versus osimertinib monotherapy in treatment-naïve recurrent or metastatic NSCLC patients harboring EGFR exon 21 L858R mutation.

(1) Background: Avian influenza has attracted widespread attention because of its severe effect on the poultry industry and potential threat to human health. The H9N2 subtype of avian influenza viruses was the most prevalent in chickens, and there are several commercial vaccines available for the prevention of the H9N2 subtype of avian influenza viruses. However, due to the prompt antigenic drift and antigenic shift of influenza viruses, outbreaks of H9N2 viruses still continuously occur, so surveillance and vaccine updates for H9N2 subtype avian influenza viruses are particularly important.
