Background And Purpose: Early identification of malignant cerebral edema (MCE) in patients with acute ischemic stroke is crucial for timely interventions. We aimed to identify regions critically associated with MCE using the Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS) to evaluate the association between location-specific-net water uptake (NWU) and MCE.

Materials And Methods: This multicentre, retrospective cohort study included patients with acute ischemic stroke following large anterior circulation occlusion.

Background: To help understand the disease burden of vaccine-preventable bacterial disease, we delineated the epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of radiographic-confirmed community-acquired pneumonia (CXR-CAP) among Chinese children.

Methods: We retrospectively screened the electronic database of the hospital information system to identify all pediatric CAP cases admitted to the Children's Hospital of Soochow University between 2010 and 2014. Radiographic findings and clinical data were extracted from the medical charts through individual chart reviews.

Background And Purpose: The Neuroform Atlas stent and the LVIS Jr stent are intracranial microstent systems for the treatment of wide-neck intracranial aneurysms. Hence, this study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of the Neuroform Atlas stent and the LVIS Jr stent for the treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysms in parent arteries of <2 mm in diameter.

Materials And Methods: From March 2022 to April 2023, the clinical and imaging data of 135 patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysms treated with stent-assisted coiling using the Neuroform Atlas or LVIS Jr stent in parent arteries of <2 mm in diameter were retrospectively analyzed.

Many of the currently available COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics are not effective against newly emerged SARS-CoV-2 variants. Here, we developed the metallo-enzyme domain of angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)-the cellular receptor of SARS-CoV-2-into an IgM-like inhalable molecule (HH-120). HH-120 binds to the SARS-CoV-2 Spike (S) protein with high avidity and confers potent and broad-spectrum neutralization activity against all known SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern.

The host-guest inclusion strategy has become a promising method for developing novel high-energy density materials (HEDMs). The selection of functional guest molecules was a strategic project, as it can not only enhance the detonation performance of host explosives but can also modify some of their suboptimal performances. Here, to improve the propulsion and combustion performances of 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (HNIW), a novel energetic-energetic host-guest inclusion explosive was obtained by incorporating energetic rocket fuel, hydroxylamine (HA), into the lattice cavities of HNIW.

Fibrosis, or the accumulation of extracellular matrix, is a common feature of many chronic diseases. To interrogate core molecular pathways underlying fibrosis, we cross-examine human primary cells from various tissues treated with TGF-β, as well as kidney and liver fibrosis models. Transcriptome analyses reveal that genes involved in fatty acid oxidation are significantly perturbed.

Background:  Clopidogrel is currently the only P2Y inhibitor with class I recommendation in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic coronary syndromes (CCS). Diabetic patients have reduced therapeutic response to clopidogrel.

Purpose:  This study assessed the antiplatelet effect of ticagrelor versus clopidogrel in diabetic patients after recent PCI for CCS.

The hidden (H) quantum state in 1T-TaS has sparked considerable interest in the field of correlated electron systems. Here, we investigate ultrafast switches to stable H charge density wave (H-CDW) states observed in 1T-TaS Se , with = 0 and 0.5 crystals, upon excitation with a single femtosecond laser pulse.

Background: Liraglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 analog, was reported to reduce reperfusion injury in mice. We planned to evaluate the effects of liraglutide on reperfusion injury in patients with acute ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention.

Methods And Results: A total of 96 patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing emergency primary percutaneous coronary intervention were randomized to receive either subcutaneous liraglutide or placebo.

Plant volatile organic compounds, which are generated in a tissue-specific manner, play important ecological roles in the interactions between plants and their environments, including the well-known functions of attracting pollinators and protecting plants from herbivores/fungi attacks. However, to date, there have not been reports of holistic volatile profiling of the various tissues of a single plant species, even for the model plant species. In this study, we qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed 85 volatile chemicals, including 36 volatile terpenes, in 23 different tissues of cucumber (Cucumis sativus) plants using solid-phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Objective: Endothelin-1 is a potent vasoconstrictor derived from vascular endothelium. Elevated endothelin-1 levels are observed in a host of cardiovascular pathologies including cardiomyopathy. The epigenetic mechanism responsible for endothelin-1 induction in these pathological processes remains elusive.

The intercellular movement of plant viruses requires both viral and host proteins. Previous studies have demonstrated that the frame-shift protein P3N-PIPO (for the protein encoded by the open reading frame [ORF] containing 5'-terminus of P3 and a +2 frame-shift ORF called Pretty Interesting Potyviridae ORF and embedded in the P3) and CYLINDRICAL INCLUSION (CI) proteins were required for potyvirus cell-to-cell movement. Here, we provide genetic evidence showing that a Tobacco vein banding mosaic virus (TVBMV; genus Potyvirus) mutant carrying a truncated PIPO domain of 58 amino acid residues could move between cells and induce systemic infection in Nicotiana benthamiana plants; mutants carrying a PIPO domain of seven, 20, or 43 amino acid residues failed to move between cells and cause systemic infection in this host plant.

The interdomain instability of single-chain fragment variable (scFv) might result in intermolecular aggregation and loss of function. In the present study, we stabilized H4-an anti-aflatoxin B(1) (AFB(1)) scFv-with an interdomain disulfide bond and studied the effect of the disulfide bond on antibody affinity. With homology modeling and molecular docking, we designed a scFv containing an interdomain disulfide bond between the residues H44 and L100.
