Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the spread of extensively drug-resistant Salmonella (XDR) strains, particularly S. Typhi, from Africa to South Asia and aims to identify contaminated sources of a typhoid outbreak.
  • Environmental samples including food and water were collected from various urban areas, and tests were conducted to assess antimicrobial resistance through molecular techniques like multiplex PCR.
  • Results showed that 64% of the samples contained Salmonella, with S. Typhi being the most prevalent, and raw vegetables identified as a likely source of infection, underscoring the threat posed by XDR strains in foodborne illnesses.
