Nested variant of urothelial carcinoma of renal pelvis - a case report.

We report a case of an 80-year-old woman with a very rare subtype of urothelial carcinoma - nested variant of urothelial carcinoma mimicking physiological von Brunn's nests. Optimal treatment of NVUC has not been determined due to the small number of cases, as well as the lack of randomized and follow-up studies. In our case the right retroperitoneal nephroureterectomy was chosen.

The lack of effect of a prophylactic dose of enoxaparin on thrombin generation in patients subjected to nephrectomy because of kidney cancer.

It is assumed that major surgery, connected with extensive tissue dissection, brings about the release of tissue factor into circulation and subsequent activation of coagulation system. This activation results in the thrombin generation, which is supposed to be suppressed by the low-molecular-mass heparins (LMMH), administered to the surgical patients as the prophylaxis against postoperative venous thromboembolism. We have estimated the concentration of circulating thrombin-antithrombin (TAT) complex in patients subjected to transperitoneal nephrectomy and randomized into controls and who received 40-mg enoxaparin 12 h before and 12 h after the operation and then once daily for 7 days.

Treatment of a benign prostatic hyperplasia by Nd:YAG laser - own experience.

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of visual laser ablation (VLAP) and interstitial laser coagulation (ILCP) versus transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).

Patients And Methods: Altogether 259 consecutive patients with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were treated by VLAP (n = 117), ILCP (n = 30) or TURP (n = 112). VLAP was carried out using both contact and noncontact techniques, whereas ILCP using the technique described by Muschter.

Usefulness of cytologic examination of urinary sediment with the millipore method in routine diagnosis based on 125 cases.

The paper evaluates the usefulness of cytologic examination of urine sediment performed by millipore method, based on 125 cases. The method permits high quality cytologic smears obtained even from cellularly poor urines. The sensitivity of this analysis is directly proportional to the histological grade of the tumour.

[A case of pregnancy with polycystic kidneys].

The authors described a course of pregnancy and delivery of pregnant women who was admitted to the hospital in the third trimester with symptoms of sepsis in course of the pyelonephritis. Signs of a kidney insufficiency and pulmonary oedema were observed. During hospitalization ultrasound examination showed polycystic kidneys.

Procoagulant activity of gastric, colorectal, and renal cancer is factor VII-dependent.

The PA of GC, CC, and RC extracts was assayed by the recalcification of human normal or F VII-DP, and the PA of normal tissue was also determined. The PA of normal tissue was higher than that of the cancer tissues in all groups of specimens. Substitution of normal plasma by F VII-DP resulted in significant depression of the PA and the differences in the PA between the normal and cancer tissue samples disappeared.

Antireflux operations without catheter.

Forty-three patients are presented in whom 80 ureters were transplanted by Cohen's method without leaving a catheter in the bladder. No complications were observed and the incidence of urinary tract infection and dysuria was lower. The late results of the operation were good in every case.

Diverticula of renal calyces.

The authors present results of the treatment of 31 patients with calyceal diverticula. Conservative therapy was applied in 19 cases, whereas in 12 patients surgical treatment was performed. Surgery was mandatory in patients with persistent pains and/or in whom the infection of the urinary system did not respond to conservative therapy, as well as in cases of nephrolithiasis.
