Developing implant mentoring programmes: breaking down the components.

Mentoring has been identified as a key component of training in implant dentistry. However there has been little guidance about how this should take place, the expected outcomes, who should be providing mentoring, and the processes involved. Dentists are required to ensure they are appropriately trained, competent and confident when undertaking clinical tasks.

Dental implants and risk of bleeding in patients on oral anticoagulants: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Dental implant placement is safe and predictable, yet optimal management of anticoagulated patients remains controversial. Whilst cessation of anticoagulation pre-operatively should decrease risks of bleeding, risk of thrombosis increases. We aim to define risk of bleeding in patients on oral anticoagulation who are undergoing dental implant placement, in order to establish best management.

A small bowel volvulus caused by a mesenteric lipoma: report of a case.

A 31-year-old man underwent a laparotomy for acute intestinal obstruction symptoms, which he had intermittently experienced for 14 years. The cause of the obstruction was due to a volvulus of the small bowel caused by a mesenteric lipoma. This is a rare finding, which is ideally diagnosed by computed tomography, with surgery the best and most highly recommended treatment.
