Examination of 38 patients with pneumonic form of ornithosis revealed important immunological shifts of suppressor type secondary immuno-deficiency. The condition runs protracted course, with the pneumonic foci being observable for some length, the physical findings not remarkable. The presence of secondary immuno-deficiency suggests that conventional therapy of ornithosis provides no benefit in patients and warrants the use of immunomodulating agents to deal with the above condition.

In patients with acute viral hepatitis B (VHB) disturbances in the immune status and the state of microhemodynamics was established; the degree of their manifestation and their duration depended on the severity of the disease and the presence of clinically manifest concomitant pathology. Immune and microcirculatory disturbances were found to be pathogenetically interrelated. The inclusion of Antral into the complex therapy of 74 VHB patients contributed to the rapid normalization of their immune status and microhemodynamics, which led to the improvement of clinical characteristics, a decrease in the frequency of complications and unfavorable consequences of VHB, accelerated convalescence.

It was established in the course of 185 schizophrenic patients' examination that intensification of lipid peroxidation (LP) took place in relapses of the disease. It was manifested either in increase of blood serum levels of both malonic dialdehyde and diene conjugates, or in decrease of erythrocytes' resistance to LP mediated hemolysis. Alterations in indices of either spontaneous or induced chemoluminescence were revealed too.

The influence of endovascular laser therapy and of antioxidants on clinical immunological indices and energy metabolism was analysed in 148 schizophrenic patients including 86 patients with shift-like progredient (first group) and 62 patients with continuous-progredient (second group) forms of the disease. Positive trends in psychosis course were observed in 57% of cases in the first group and in 41.9% of patients of the second group.

126 patients with chronic alcoholism combined with hepatic pathology (of alcoholic genesis) were examined. Laboratory immunological observations with the using of monoclonal antibodies demonstrated the expressed alterations of immune homeostasis exactly the decrease of total T-lymphocytes population (CD11+) as well as the number of T-helpers/inductors (CD40, immunoregulatory index and the increase of the level of circulating immune complexes. The correlation between the immune alterations and the microhemodynamic disturbances was also observed.

The levels of spontaneous and induced chemiluminescence of whole blood were assessed in 165 patients with erysipelas in the acute period of the infection and in 129 patients followed up for 1 to 6 months after it, as well as in 216 patients with tonsillitis in the acute period of the infection and in 182 ones after it. Induced chemiluminescence was 4-5 times more intensive than spontaneous one in the acute period of streptococcal infections (erysipelas, tonsillitis) during the development of pyo-inflammatory complications; when the disease course was uncomplicated, this difference made up 2.6-3.

The clinical efficacy of a vilozen and ketotifen (zaditen) combination in the treatment of streptococcal infections along with the routine therapy was studied. The use of the combination was shown advisable in the complex therapy and prevention of relapses in patients with streptococcal infections. The combined pharmacotherapy promoted better clinical indices, normalization of the immune status and a reduction in the incidence of allergic reactions to antibiotics and a decrease in sensitization to bacterial allergens.

The follow-up involved patients with infiltrative pulmonary tuberculosis who developed toxic medicamentous hepatitis associated with antituberculosis drugs. They were treated by the method of combined pharmacotherapy which comprised sodium nucleinate (0.5 g 4 times daily), splenin (2 ml twice a day) and quercetin.

A study is presented of 356 patients with viral hepatitis A (age: 16-35 years); 256 of them lived in a zone of industrially caused contaminations of the atmospheric air and 100 (control group) lived in rural districts. Of the main group 106 patients were given during the acute period basis treatment plus quercetin, splenin, sodium nucleinate and glyciram. It was found that in those living in ecologically unfavourable regions viral hepatitis A had a more severe course, the disease was protracted, recurrences were more frequent, immune disorders were pronounced and long-standing.
