Children with ETV6::RUNX1 or high-hyperdiploid B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) have favorable outcomes. The St. Jude (SJ) classification considers these patients low risk, regardless of their National Cancer Institute (NCI) risk classification, except when there is slow minimal residual disease (MRD) response or central nervous system/testicular involvement.

Infection is a major cause of treatment-related morbidity and mortality in pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Most children with ALL who develop life-threatening bacterial infections do so during induction therapy. We describe a rare case of ALL presenting simultaneously with Streptococcus agalactiae group B Streptococcus bacteremia and meningitis in a 3-year-old girl.

Purpose: The Stanford V chemotherapy regimen has been used to treat Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) patients since 2002 with excellent cure rates; however, mechlorethamine is no longer available. Bendamustine, a drug structurally similar to alkylating agents and nitrogen mustard, is being substituted for mechlorethamine in combination therapy in a frontline trial for low- and intermediate-risk pediatric HL patients, forming a new backbone of BEABOVP (bendamustine, etoposide, doxorubicin, bleomycin, vincristine, vinblastine, and prednisone). This study evaluated the pharmacokinetics and tolerability of a 180 mg/m dose of bendamustine every 28 days to determine factors that may explain this variability.

Past studies of Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) radiation as a marine antifoulant have focused on repeated doses. However, single or very low frequency exposures of UV-C could create more plausible applications for certain marine structures. The objective of the study reported here was to apply a single treatment of UV-C radiation to an early stage marine biofouling community to observe subsequent effects on biofouling development.

Improving production efficiency while enhancing pork quality is pivotal for strengthening sustainable pork production. Being able to study both gene expression and indices of pork quality from the same anatomical location of an individual animal would better enable research conducted to study relationships between animal growth and carcass merit. To facilitate gene expression studies, adipose and muscle tissue samples are often collected immediately following exsanguination to maximize RNA integrity, which is a primary determinant of the sensitivity of RNA-based assays, such as real-time PCR.

Chimeric Antigen Receptor-T (CAR-T) cell immunotherapy has produced dramatic responses in hematologic malignancies. One of the challenges in the field is the lack of a simple assay for the detection of CARs on the surface of immune effector cells. In this study, we describe a novel luciferase-based assay, termed Topanga Assay, for the detection of CAR expression.

The superior self-regulation and attention-regulation abilities of securely attached children have been repeatedly demonstrated. However, the mechanisms that allow securely attached children to exhibit higher levels of attention focus than insecurely attached (anxious-ambivalent and anxious-avoidant) children need to be explored. One possible mechanism that has been hypothesized to play a role in focusing attention is self-touch.

Children who have experienced early adversities are at risk for behavioral problems and trauma symptoms. Using a two-group, pre-post intervention design, the current study evaluated the effectiveness of a parent training utilizing Trust-Based Relational Intervention, a trauma-informed, attachment-based intervention, in reducing behavioral problems and trauma symptoms in at-risk adopted children. Children of parents in the treatment group ( = 48) demonstrated significant decreases in behavioral problems on the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire and significant decreases in trauma symptoms on the Trauma Symptoms Checklist for Young Children after intervention.

Given similarities in metabolic parameters and cardiovascular physiology, the pig is well positioned as a biomedical model for metabolic disease and obesity in humans. Better understanding molecular mechanisms governing porcine adipocyte hyperplasia may provide insight into the regulation of adipose tissue development that is useful both when considering the pig as a commodity and when extrapolating porcine data to human disease. Primary cultures of pig stromal-vascular cells have served as a useful tool for investigating factors that regulate preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation.

Children and youth who have experienced foster care or orphanage-rearing have often experienced complex developmental trauma, demonstrating an interactive set of psychological and behavioral issues. Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) is a therapeutic model that trains caregivers to provide effective support and treatment for at-risk children. TBRI has been applied in orphanages, courts, residential treatment facilities, group homes, foster and adoptive homes, churches, and schools.

The objective of this study was to determine whether children's characteristics and/or institutional characteristics were predictors of severe punishments (including beatings) and/or frequency of punishments that children received from staff in Romanian institutions. The data was hierarchical with institutionalized children (N=1391) nested within 44 institutions, and the measurement of punishments by the staff and frequency of punishments had a binary distribution. Thus, multilevel logistic regression models were used to examine the effects of individual and institutional level variables on reported punishments and to account for the clustering of the children within institutions.

Background: Increasing numbers of children are at-risk for behavioural and emotional disorders, a phenomenon contributing to increased use of pharmacological interventions for paediatric clients. Adverse side effects and other risks associated with pharmacological approaches have helped fuel interest in nutritional interventions for behaviourally at-risk children.

Methods: The current randomized clinical trial evaluates the efficacy of a neurochemical intervention involving the glutamine and glutamate analogue L-theanine and 5-hydroxytryptophan, the precursor for serotonin, with children adopted from traumatic backgrounds.

In this article, the authors evaluate two brief clinician-scored global assessment instruments used to measure the functioning of adult clients who have a serious mental illness: the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) Scale and the relatively new Kennedy Axis V (K Axis). Although both instruments are brief and easy to score, the K Axis provides a multi-dimensional evaluation, while the GAF provides a single, unidimensional picture of a client's functioning. Statistical analyses indicated that both instruments have adequate validity and reliability if the clinicians using them are sufficiently trained.

The Behavior and Symptom Identification Scale (BASIS-32) is a survey used to collect clients' reported perceptions of their symptoms and functioning. This article assesses the usefulness of the BASIS-32 for evaluating program outcomes in California's statewide performance outcome system for adults with serious mental illnesses. The authors found that, while the instrument could be useful at the clinical level, it did not work well when data were aggregated at the program or system level.
