Article Synopsis
  • Surgical repair of obstructed total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC) in infants is high-risk, and a study was conducted to evaluate surgical risk factors and outcomes at a single center.
  • The study included 41 infants with obstructed TAPVC, revealing a 19.5% in-hospital mortality rate, with significant risk factors being age under 30 days and the need for pre-operative ventilation.
  • Follow-up showed reasonable surgical outcomes, with no deaths among the survivors, although some patients developed pulmonary vein obstructions that required additional interventions.

Breast cancer, a widespread global disease, represents a significant threat to women's health and lives, ranking as one of the most vulnerable malignant tumors they face. Many researchers have proposed their computer-aided diagnosis systems for classifying breast cancer. The majority of these approaches primarily utilize deep learning (DL) methods, which are not entirely reliable.

Article Synopsis
  • Agriculture is increasingly leveraging data through artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet-of-Things (IoT) to improve practices like rainfall prediction and fruit health monitoring.
  • The proposed intelligent agriculture management system incorporates various sensors and uses advanced AI models, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) layers, for accurate predictions.
  • The entire system operates in the cloud and can be accessed via a dedicated application, enhancing its usability in agricultural settings.

Introduction: Most nurses and midwives do not feel adequately prepared to respond to the complex trauma and social and cultural needs of female clients who have experienced trafficking. There are data to support a lack of knowledge among health care providers about the types of human trafficking as well as poor structural supports within health care systems. The purpose of this review was to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the global health care experiences of females who have experienced trafficking.

The amendments to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act of India in 2019 address non-binary persons' constitutional rights, recognition of their gender identity, and non-discrimination laws across institutional spaces (for example, family, workplace, education, and healthcare). The Act discusses legal rights in isolation of praxis, structural support and, more importantly, lacks guidelines needed to substantively access rights. Such a disconnection relegates human rights to merely legal changes with limited practice.

Introduction: Large-scale vaccination is considered one of the most effective strategies to control the pandemic of COVID-19. Since its start, different complications have been described thought to be related to vaccination. Here, we present a rare case where encephalopathy, myocarditis, and thrombocytopenia developed simultaneously following the second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA vaccine (BNT162b2).

Objective: The formation of three-dimensional spheroid tumor model using the scaffold-based platforms has been demonstrated over many years now. 3D tumor models are generated mainly in non-scalable culture systems, using synthetic and biological scaffolds. Many of these models fail to reflect the complex tumor microenvironment and do not allow long-term monitoring of tumor progression.

Among the HPV-mediated cervical cancers, cellular factor BRN3A has gained considerable attention due to its role in promoting an anti-apoptotic cellular environment and in facilitating epitheliotropic transformations of the host. The majority of previous studies looked at BRN3A's molecular characteristics; however, the possibility of genetic variations in BRN3A's auto-regulatory region in relation to cervical cancer risk has been underestimated until now. In a retrospective study in the Eastern UP population, India, we detected genetic variations in the cis-regulatory proximal enhancer region located around 5.

Background: The Trifecta valve has been reported to have excellent hemodynamics. Controversy exists on occurrence of patient-prosthesis mismatch (PPM) and data on mid-term outcome is sparse. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) assessment for the Trifecta valve has not been reported before.

An inadvertent vent in the right ventricle (RV) resulted during dissection of a deep intramyocardial left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD), during off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB), led to pulmonary artery air embolism and hemodynamic instability, requiring conversion to cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) prior to repair. This required a special maneuver in positioning the patient to identify the RV injury and prevent the pulmonary air embolism.

Objective: Hypertension at advanced age damages microvasculature and initiates many disease conditions including chronic kidney disease (CKD). In the present study, we sought to determine molecular alterations occurring in angiotensin-II (Ang-II)-induced aged kidney.

Methods: Old (75-80 weeks) and young (12-14 weeks) wild-type mice (C57BL/6J) were infused with Ang-II (1000 ng/kg per min) for 4 weeks using osmotic minipumps to induce hypertension.

Malignant Perivascular Epitheloid Cell Tumour (PEComa) of the lung is very rare, with only six cases reported in literature. This case presented with a large mass originating from right upper lobe of the lung with dilemma in its histopathological diagnosis and management. Postoperative histopathology after a right upper and middle lobectomy describes a tumour with an alveolar/nested pattern of growth and epitheloid morphology with expression of TFE-3 and diagnosed as PEComa.

Although success of organ transplants reflects advances in medical procedures, the success has generated debates about the ethical standards and policies that govern transplants, especially the acquisition of organs for transplants. We focus on laws, policies, and organ trafficking to highlight the interdisciplinary perspectives that can shape our understanding of transplantation as a social phenomenon. We discuss international policies and country-specific legislation from Pakistan to point to gaps and their implications for protecting vulnerable people who are exploited for organ removal.

Metastasis causes most cancer related mortality but the mechanisms governing metastatic dissemination are poorly defined. Metastasis involves egression of cancer cells from the primary tumors, their survival in circulation and colonization at the secondary sites. Cancer cell egression from the primary tumor is the least defined process of metastasis as experimental metastasis models directly seed cancer cells in circulation, thus bypassing this crucial step.

The human race is afflicted with more than 100 types of cancer with diversified underlying genetic events. Still, altered metabolism (known as 'Warburg effect') and unrestrained cellular proliferation are precise traits of all cancers, being governed by the expression of genes. The obligatory energy for the proliferating neoplastic cells is endowed through the glycolytic pathway, albeit, lesser ATP is generated in this metabolic process.

Objective: The host cellular transcription factor, BRN3A, has been observed to play a vital role in cancer of the uterine cervix. BRN3A possesses multipartite functions, which include transcription of the genes of the high-risk HPVs and mediation of cellular changes in the host. In this study, we made an effort to decipher the regulation of BRN3A in cervical cancer cells by studying its interaction with different components of the cell.

Poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL)/layered silicate nanocomposites have been prepared via solution route. Two different organically modified nanoclays were used to compare the variation in properties based on organic modifications. The nanostructures, as observed from wide-angle X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy, indicate intercalated and partially exfoliated hybrids depending on the nature of organic modification in nanoclay.

An easy method for speedy and quantitative separation of carrier-free scandium tracer formed by the (48)Ti(22)(n,p)(48)Sc(21) nuclear reaction has been developed. Separation of (48)Sc (1.83 days) from the target titanium metal was carried out by co-precipitating the tracer with calcium fluoride precipitated at pH approximately 4 from the solution of irradiated titanium in hydrofluoric acid.
