Investigation of an Outbreak of Equine Herpesvirus-1 Myeloencephalopathy in a Population of Aged Working Equids.

The objective of this study was to describe an outbreak of equine herpesvirus-1 myeloencephalopathy (EHM) in a population of aged equids. The outbreak was linked to the introduction of five healthy non-resident horses 15 days prior to the first case of acute recumbency. This fulminant EHM outbreak was predisposed by the grouping of the 33 unvaccinated animals in two large pens with shared water and feed troughs.

Surgical Treatment of Severe Heterotopic Ossification After Total Hip Arthroplasty Over the Last 25 Years: A Systematic Review of the Literature and a New Case Series.

Background: Severe heterotopic ossification (HO) (grades III and IV) after total hip arthroplasty (THA) over the last 25 years requiring excision is very uncommon. We performed a systematic review of the literature and reported a new case series with operative treatment after primary uncemented THA.

Methods: A systematic review identified papers describing patients who had excision of HO after THA performed after 1988.

Both pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic methods have been used for perioperative sleep disorders, but there is no consensus on the optimal treatment.

Heterotopic Ossification After Modern Total Hip Arthroplasty: Predisposing Factors, Prophylaxis, and Surgical Treatment.

Mature forests provide important wildlife habitat and support critical ecosystem functions globally. Within the dry conifer forests of the western United States, past management and fire exclusion have contributed to forest conditions that are susceptible to increasingly severe wildfire and drought. We evaluated declines in conifer forest cover in the southern Sierra Nevada of California during a decade of record disturbance by using spatially comprehensive forest structure estimates, wildfire perimeter data, and the eDaRT forest disturbance tracking algorithm.

Objective: The Stepping On program has been shown to prevent falls among community-dwelling people in a research setting and was implemented statewide by the New South Wales (NSW) Ministry of Health in 2008.
