Percutaneous Transcatheter Closure of Post Myocardial Infarct Ventricular Septal Rupture After Surgical Patch Dehiscence.

Post myocardial infarction ventricular septal rupture (MI-VSR) is a dreaded complication, closure of which is extremely challenging. We here describe a case which was surgically closed after 10 days but had a failure needing continuous intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) support and was subsequently closed percutaneously with a Post MI-VSR device.

Ventricular septal defects are increasingly being closed by transcatheter technique, with lesser morbidity and shorter hospital stay compared to open heart surgery. We report a case of embolization of a duct occluder deployed in a posterior muscular septal defect. The rare site of embolization necessitated an unusual approach for retrieval prior to subsequent closure using a double-disc device.

A fatal case of fungal empyema due to Candida krusei and Candida tropicalis: a rare occurrence with an atypical presentation.

Infections of the pleural cavity remain an important cause of morbidity and mortality despite advancement in diagnostic modalities and therapy. Community acquired empyema thoracis due to Candida species are rarely reported in paediatric literature. We hereby report an interesting case of empyema due to co-infection of Candida krusei with Candida tropicalis.
