The surgical process known as a frenectomy involves completely removing the frenum that connects it to the bone. Traditional frenectomy involves using a blade, while a more recent technique is frenectomy assisted by a laser.

Dental surgeons have a key role in initiating reduction and even cessation of tobacco habits.
