Background: Data about special phenotypes, natural course, and prognostic variables of patients with acquired cold urticaria (ACU) are scarce.
Objectives: We sought to describe the clinical features and disease course of patients with ACU, with special attention paid to particular phenotypes, and to examine possible parameters that could predict the evolution of the disease.
Methods: This study was a retrospective chart review of 74 patients with ACU who visited a tertiary referral center of urticaria between 2005 and 2015.
Background: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common skin cancer and frequently progresses from an actinic keratosis (AK), a sun-induced keratinocyte intraepithelial neoplasia (KIN). Epigenetic mechanisms involved in the phenomenon of progression from AK to cSCC remain to be elicited.
Methods: Expression of microRNAs in sun-exposed skin, AK and cSCC was analysed by Agilent microarrays.
Development of persistent deep cutaneous ulceration is a rare and serious complication of radiosynovectomy, an extended procedure used in the treatment of chronic synovitis. Cutaneous radiation necrosis is a rare complication of synovectomy, probably as a result of radiocolloid para-articular injection. This rare phenomenon should be suspected when an ulcer adjacent to an articulation appears several days or even months after a radiation synovectomy.

Histopathologically, it is manifested by a diffuse proliferation of endothelial cells within the full thickness of the dermis. DDA has been mainly associated with severe peripheral atherosclerosis.

In IL-17A-stimulated keratinocytes, MCPIP1 is rapidly increased at the transcript and protein levels. Also, IL-17A was found to be the main inducer of ZC3H12A expression in keratinocytes treated with supernatants derived from a Streptococcus pyogenes-activated psoriatic ex vivo model based on the co-culture of psoriatic cutaneous lymphocyte-associated antigen (CLA(+)) T cells and lesional epidermal cells.

Ribbons are electron-dense structures that tether synaptic vesicles to the presynaptic zone of mechanosensory hair cells where they are juxtaposed with the post-synaptic endings of afferent fibers. They are initially formed throughout the cytoplasm, and, as cells mature, ribbons translocate to the basolateral membrane of hair cells to form functional synapses.

We review the clinical, histopathological and immunological characteristics of the first 2 cases described in Spain. Anti-p200 pemphigoid shares histopathological and immunopathological findings with epidermolysis bullosa acquisita, the main entity in the differential diagnosis.

Although this particular phenotype of psoriasis is usually associated with streptococcal throat infections and mainly occurs in HLA-Cw6(+) patients, the specific immunologic response to this innate stimulus that causes these skin lesions is poorly understood.
Objective: This study aims to elucidate how key cellular elements of patients with GP respond to Streptococcus pyogenes and whether this initial immune response is favored by the genetic and environmental background of these patients.
Sézary syndrome is a leukemic form of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma with an aggressive clinical course. The genetic etiology of the disease is poorly understood, with chromosomal abnormalities and mutations in some genes being involved in the disease. The goal of our study was to understand the genetic basis of the disease by looking for driver gene mutations and fusion genes in 15 erythrodermic patients with circulating Sézary cells, 14 of them fulfilling the diagnostic criteria of Sézary syndrome.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) is considered a fibroblastic or myofibroblastic neoplasm probably corresponding to a superficial variant of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS). However, an epithelial origin has also been postulated. An immunohistochemical study of the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) phenomenon was performed in a series of 19 AFX and 4 UPS to discern an epithelial origin.

As superficial fungal infections can be diverse, the treatment should be tailored to the individual needs of the patient and several factors should be taken into account when deciding on the most appropriate treatment option. These include the type, location and surface area of the infection, patient age, degree of inflammation and underlying comorbidities.

Methods: A point-prevalence, cross-sectional, multicenter survey involving 2100 medical inpatients from 43 hospitals from 8 European countries. Patients were screened for current alcohol use, using standardized questionnaires.
Background: Skin problems are among the most frequent reasons for seeking medical attention in primary care. In recent years, as a result of the process of adapting medical curricula to the requirements of the European Higher Education Area, the amount of time students spend learning the concepts of dermatology has been reduced in many universities.
Material And Methods: In order to reach a consensus on core content for undergraduate education in dermatology, we sent a survey to the 57 members of the instructors' group of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV), asking their opinions on what objectives should be set for a dermatology course in Spain.
Background: Mucosal lichen planus (LP) is an inflammatory disease of the mucous membranes of unknown origin. The antigen-specific autoantibodies or T cells responsible for this disease have not yet been established.
Objectives: This study was designed to study the antigenic specificities of circulating antibodies in patients with mucosal LP and to review previous findings on this topic.
