Introduction: We conducted a population-based study on the Girona Cancer Registry (Spain) for the period 1994-2013 to determine patterns of change in the incidence of melanoma, which is increasing in many countries, and patient survival in our geographical area.
Materials And Methods: Using the standard registration rules for cancer registries, we calculated crude and standardized incidence rates as well as their trends. We also analysed the observed survival, 1-year conditioned survival and relative survival at 3, 5 and 10 years.
Objective: To externally validate the previously identified effect on breast cancer risk of the Western, Prudent and Mediterranean dietary patterns.
Study Design: MCC-Spain is a multicase-control study that collected epidemiological information on 1181 incident cases of female breast cancer and 1682 healthy controls from 10 Spanish provinces. Three dietary patterns derived in another Spanish case-control study were analysed in the MCC-Spain study.
Objectives: To investigate breast cancer survival and risk of breast cancer death by detection mode (screen-detected, interval, and detected outside the screening programme), adjusting for prognostic and predictive tumour characteristics.
Methods: Information about detection mode, prognostic (age, tumour size, histologic grade, lymph node status) and predictive factors (molecular subtypes based on immunohistochemical analyses of hormone receptor status (estrogen and progesterone) and Her2 status) were available for 8344 women in Norway aged 50-69 at diagnosis of breast cancer, 2005-2011. A total of 255 breast cancer deaths were registered by the end of 2011.
Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of diabetes and diabetes treatment with risk of postmenopausal breast cancer.
Methods: Histologically confirmed incident cases of postmenopausal breast (N = 916) cancer were recruited from 23 Spanish public hospitals. Population-based controls (N = 1094) were randomly selected from primary care center lists within the catchment areas of the participant hospitals.
Background: The main aim of this study is to estimate the rate of false negative and true IC on the Program for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer (PEDBC) run by the Girona Health Region (GHR) and compare the clinicopathological characteristics of these tumors with those detected within the same program.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study including all women participating on the Girona PEDBC between 2000 and 2006, with negative mammography screening. The IC included are those detected between the first and second round of screening and between the second and third round.
Myeloid malignancies (MMs) are heterogeneous groups of diseases which present different prognoses. Using data from the population-based Girona Cancer Registry, we estimated the relative survival (RS) rates and relative excess risk of death among patients with MMs in the province of Girona between 1994 and 2008. Material And Method: Cases of women aged 50 to 69 years diagnosed with BC in the Girona province during 1999-2006 were extracted from the population-based Girona Cancer Registry (n=1,254). BC was classified by detection method: screen-detected cancer, interval cancer and others.
Background: The objective of this study is to analyze the distribution, clinicopathological features, relative survival rate and excess risk of death among females diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and classified by molecular subtype from ten Spanish cancer registries.
Method: Three thousand four hundred and eighty incident cases of women - mostly diagnosed in 2005 - were classified into five molecular subtypes according to immunohistochemical status of hormonal receptors and HER2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2): estrogen receptor (ER) and/or progesterone receptor (PR)+ and HER2-, ER+ and/or PR+ and HER2+, HER2-overexpressed (ER-, PR- and HER2+), triple negative (ER, PR and HER2-) and unclassified (hormonal receptor or/and HER2 unknown). Relative survival rates at 1, 3 and 5years and relative excess risks (RER) of death adjusting for molecular subtype, age, stage and histological grade were estimated.
Purpose: Biological markers are crucial factors in order to differentiate female breast cancers and to determine the right therapy. This study aims at evaluating whether testing for biomarkers for female breast cancer has similar frequency and characteristics across and within countries.
Methods: Population-based cancer registries of the Association for cancer registration and epidemiology in Romance language countries (GRELL) were asked to complete a questionnaire on biomarkers testing.
Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia is a very rare blood cancer observed mostly in the elderly. Here we report the incidence trends and survival of patients with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia over a 15-year period (1993-2007). Cases were provided by the population-based Girona Cancer Registry.
