Background: Despite healthcare scholars valuing diversity, current cultural awareness training does not address mechanisms that drive societal patterns, that generates cultural insensitivity and reinforces stereotypes of minority groups. The influence of culture on thinking is an important issue because of potential ethnocentric biases on the design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of research.
Objectives: Using internationalization-at-home activities to explore the mechanisms that enhance the development of cultural awareness in postgraduate health and social science research students.
Challenges of ophthalmic drug delivery arise not only from the limited solubility of hydrophobic therapeutics, but also the restricted permeability and fast clearance of drugs due to the complex anatomy and physiology of eyes. Excellent biocompatibility of a thermosensitive polymer, PLGA-PEG-PLGA (1800-1500-1800, LA:GA ratio = 3:1), as an ophthalmic delivery system was demonstrated in our previous work. In this study, delivery of dexamethasone using this thermogel via a single subconjunctival injection for prolonged treatment was evaluated with corneal neovascularization using an alkali-burn diseased model in rat.

This study described the perspectives and interplay of factors affecting the family sense of coherence of Chinese couples during the perinatal period. We adopted a grounded theory approach and conducted semi-structured interviews with 36 Chinese couples during pregnancy and at 2-3 months postpartum. Four major themes emerged involving meaningfulness, comprehensibility, and manageability of new parenthood and factors affecting the family sense of coherence.

TTN haploinsufficiency caused by TTNtv is suggested as the disease mechanism. However, it is unclear whether TTN insufficiency causes DCM.

Objective: To assess whether silencing of cardiac causes DCM and investigate the role of Yin Yang 1 () in suppressing DCM.
Challenges of ophthalmic drug delivery arise from not only the limited solubility of hydrophobic therapeutics, but also the restricted permeability and fast clearance of drugs due to the complex anatomy and physiology of the eyes. Biodegradable thermosensitive polymer, poly(dl-lactide-co-glycolide-b-ethylene glycol-b-dl-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA-PEG-PLGA) is a desirable ophthalmic drug delivery system because it can be formulated into injectable solution which forms gel in situ to provide prolonged drug release. In this study, excellent biocompatibility of blank PLGA-PEG-PLGA (1800-1500-1800) thermogel was demonstrated with insignificant difference from saline noted in rat eye enucleation test, in vivo inflammation test upon topical instillation, and subconjunctival injection.

Design: In this randomized controlled open label study, 209 participants were recruited and randomized into three groups (music group, n = 70; headphone group, n = 70; control group, n = 69). Patients' psychological status was assessed using the visual analogue scale of pain (VAS-P), satisfaction of pain control, state-trait anxiety inventory (STAI), Beck depression inventory (BDI), and general health questionnaire (GHQ). Stress biomarkers, including salivary alpha amylase (sAA) and salivary cortisol (sCort), were measured before and after TUGOR.

The purpose of this study was to explore postpartum women's perceptions of a telephone-based cognitive-behavioral therapy (T-CBT). Using an exploratory qualitative design, a purposeful sample of 39 first-time Chinese mothers who had participated in the T-CBT was interviewed at 6 weeks postpartum. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed by content analysis.

Herein, we seek to replace the gold core with a biodegradable polymeric construct and explore their potential applications in targeted drug delivery. Oligonucleotide-conjugated poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(ε-caprolactone) was synthesized and characterized by H NMR and gel electrophoresis.

This formula is also commonly used to manage diabetes mellitus and gum/oral inflammation. The activity of YJ can be modified or refined by the addition of other CM herbs and/or minor changes to one of its five key ingredients.

In first presentation, his anti-GBM antibody was negative. This time, anti-MPO antibody was negative, but anti-GBM antibody was positive.

The objective of this study was to fabricate dasatinib-loaded nanoparticles and evaluate their efficacy in inhibiting cellular processes of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) related to proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), for which there are no approved pharmacological approaches. We successfully encapsulated dasatinib, a poorly soluble multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor which has great potential for the treatment of PVR, into nanoparticles prepared from micellation of PEG-b-PCL. The size of the nanomicelles was approximately 55nm with a narrow distribution.

The current method relies on positron emission tomography (PET), which is expensive and exposes people to radiation, undesirable features for a population screening method. Using a sample of 201 participants and a between-subjects design, the perceived professionalism-suitability, capability, ease to talk to and friendliness-of male and female dentists and lawyers in various attires was examined. Results showed an absolute preference for male dentists and lawyers in professional and formal attire, respectively. Male dentists and lawyers in professional and formal attire were further rated as more suitable, capable, easier to talk to, and friendlier than female professionals, and than those dressed in smart or casual attire.

AED export by P-glycoprotein (Pgp) overexpressed in the blood-brain barrier may contribute to AED resistance. The Pgp transport status of many of the recently approved AEDs remains unknown.

AT13387 is a novel heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) inhibitor, which inhibits the chaperone function of Hsp90 and reduces expression of Hsp90-dependent client oncoproteins. This study aimed to evaluate both the in vitro and in vivo antitumor effects of AT13387 in the EBV-positive NPC cell line C666-1.

HY-PDT was found to induce proteolytic cleavage of procaspase-9 and -3 in HK-1 cells. Apoptotic nuclei were observed at 6 h after PDT whereas B-cell leukemia/lymphoma-2-associated-X-protein (Bax) translocation and formation of Bax channel is responsible for the cell death.
