Purpose: To conduct a formative evaluation of ChatEx to increase and maintain exercise among older cancer survivors.

Methods: ChatEx is a blended intervention involving 12 weeks of theory-based instant messages and two in-person training sessions. This pilot study comprises three phases: (1)intervention development: developing a message library reviewed by experts; (2)message library pretesting: exploring the views of older cancer survivors toward the message library and making modifications (n = 20); and (3)intervention pilot testing: piloting the ChatEx using a non-randomized quasi-experimental design using quantitative and qualitative methods among cancer survivors aged 65+ who do not meet current exercise guidelines and have completed treatment (n = 40).

Introduction: Technology-facilitated sexual violence and abuse (TFSVA) refers to a range of behaviours in which digital technologies are used to facilitate both virtual and face-to-face sexual harm. The proliferation of smartphone usage and increasing internet penetration rates across the world have made it easier for individuals to become perpetrators and victims of TFSVA. Since empirical studies of TFSVA remain limited in the academic arena, and there is an absence of evidence to support the development of a standardised TFSVA measurement, this review aims to explore what TFSVA measurements are currently available and their potential use in measuring TFSVA.

Aims: To assess responses to lifestyle interventions (LIs) among individuals with distinct pre-diabetes phenotypes (isolated impaired fasting glucose [i-IFG], isolated impaired glucose tolerance [i-IGT], and combined IFG + IGT) for reducing diabetes incidence, reversing pre-diabetes, and improving glycemic control and insulin sensitivity.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science were searched until December 6th, 2023. We included randomized controlled trials examining responses to LIs (including diet and/or physical activity) among adults with i-IFG, i-IGT, and IFG + IGT.

Background: Individuals of reproductive age with cancer may experience reproductive concerns (RCs) due to impaired fertility and disrupted family planning, which can negatively impact their quality of life and psychological well-being. There is limited research on interventions that mitigate the negative effects of RCs among individuals with cancer.

Objective: This systematic review aimed to identify and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions developed to mitigate RCs among individuals with cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • Early identification of high-risk children and adolescents for weight issues is essential for preventive strategies, and this study focuses on using machine learning techniques to pinpoint key predictors.
  • The research analyzed various demographic, physical, and psychological factors to model weight status over one, three, and five-year periods, employing four feature selection methods to determine the most impactful predictors.
  • With a large dataset of over 3.8 million student visits, the study successfully identified a minimal set of influential features, achieving high prediction accuracies (up to 0.82) and demonstrating that factors like weight, height, sex, self-esteem, and age are consistently significant predictors of weight problems.

  • The study focused on using Internationalization at Home (IaH) strategies, combined with the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework, to improve cultural awareness among nursing students in an online community nursing course.
  • It involved a pre-test/post-test design with 106 nursing undergraduates, utilizing a validated Cultural Awareness Scale to measure the effectiveness of the implemented strategies.
  • Results indicated a significant increase in students' cultural awareness after using CoI-guided online IaH strategies, emphasizing the need for alignment with course content and technology to enhance student engagement and learning.

Objectives: Systemic cancer treatments pose threats to fertility, leading to concerns regarding fertility and parenthood in young adult women with breast cancer (YAWBC). This systematic review aimed to synthesize existing evidence on reproductive concerns (RCs) among YAWBC and identify areas where further research in needed.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted.

Background: Many individuals consider nocturia a significant nuisance, leading to a reduced health-related quality of life (HRQOL). However, there has been a lack of psychometrically sound patient-reported outcome measures to assess the impact of nocturia on patients in Chinese contexts. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Nocturia Quality of Life Module (ICIQ-NQOL) for use among primary care patients in Hong Kong, China.

Background: Adolescent weight problems have become a growing public health concern, making early prediction of non-normal weight status crucial for effective prevention. However, few temporal prediction tools for adolescent four weight status have been developed. This study aimed to predict the short- and long-term weight status of Hong Kong adolescents and assess the importance of predictors.

Background: Although exercise has the potential to yield numerous benefits for maintenance hemodialysis patients, the relationship between physical activity, exercise habits, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) has not been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to characterize the physical activity, exercise habits, and HRQOL of maintenance hemodialysis patients while examining the associations between these factors.

Methods: A convenience sampling was used to recruit 827 patients from 74 dialysis units in China.

Many older adults are experiencing unmet needs for assistance with the activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). Such unmet needs might threaten their physical and psychosocial well-being. We conducted a systematic review to provide a comprehensive picture of the health consequences of unmet ADL/IADL needs among older adults.

  • - This study focuses on adapting and validating the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale-Short Form (NSSS-S) for Chinese women, addressing a gap in research primarily centered on Western cultures and including diverse sexual identities.
  • - Researchers used a thorough translation process and assessed the NSSS-SC's psychometric properties through a survey involving 336 women, finding strong validity and reliability across different age groups and sexual orientations.
  • - Results indicated that cisgender heterosexual women reported higher sexual satisfaction than sexual minority women, suggesting that the NSSS-SC could serve as a useful tool for future surveys on sexual satisfaction in various contexts.

Background & Aims: Both low handgrip strength (HGS) and abdominal obesity (AO) are associated with cognitive impairment. However, it remains unclear whether low HGS and AO interact to affect cognition, and whether the synergistic effect varies by gender. This study aimed to examine whether the association between low HGS and incident cognitive impairment was moderated by AO among Chinese older men and women.

  • The study investigates the oral care knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of nursing staff in acute hospital settings, which is under-researched.
  • It utilizes a modified 55-item questionnaire to assess KAP levels among 404 nursing staff, revealing that only about 29.5% had good knowledge, 33.7% had a positive attitude, and 14.9% demonstrated good practice concerning oral care.
  • The findings highlight that higher knowledge and favorable attitudes correlate with better oral care practices, emphasizing the need for standardized training and tools to improve oral care delivery in hospitals.
