Myostatin (MSTN) was previously shown to differentially regulate the adipogenesis of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and muscle satellite cells (MSCs), both of which can serve as progenitor cells for intramuscular adipocytes. We previously showed that MSTN mediates the differential regulation of MyoD and PPARγ in ADSCs and MSCs. Here, we analyzed the effects of MSTN on whole-transcriptome expression profiles of ADSCs and MSCs, revealing that MSTN differentially regulates ADSCs and MSCs, with MSCs being more responsive to MSTN treatment.

To investigate the effect of catalyst precursors on physicochemical properties and activity of lean methane catalytic combustion, a series of CoO catalysts were prepared a precipitation method by using four different cobalt precursors: Co(CHO), Co(NO), CoCl, and CoSO. The catalysts were characterized by BET, XRD, SEM, Raman, XPS, XRF, O-TPD and H-TPR techniques. It was found that the different types of cobalt precursor had remarkable effects on the surface area, particle size, reducibility and catalytic performance.

It was found previously that neither monomer MoS nor WO is an ideal material for the adsorption of organic dyes, while MoS/WO composites synthesized by a two-step hydrothermal method have outstanding adsorption effects. In this work, the chemical state of each element was found to be changed after combination by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis, which lead to their differences in adsorption performance. Moreover, the adsorption test of methylene blue on MoS/WO composites was carried out under a series of temperatures, showing that the prepared composites also had appreciable adsorption rates at lower temperatures.

A facile, economical and one-step hydrothermal method was used to synthesize fluorescent carbon dots by utilizing citric acid as carbon source and phenylalanine to provide nitrogen. The as-prepared fluorescence carbon dots had strong blue light emission around 440 nm. As confirmed by UVvis absorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscope characterization, the carbon dots were small and very stable in water for using as a fluorescent probe.

Herein, we report a unique bimetallic diphosphide pair (FeP-NiP) forming spherical nanocages encapsulated in P-doped carbon layers (FeP-NiP@PC) as advanced bifunctional electrocatalyst synthesized by a very facile phosphorization approach. This paper proposes a novel strategy and an all-in-one toolbox that allows instrument-free customization of integrated microfluidic systems. Unlike the modular design of combining multiple microfluidic chips in the previous literature, this work, for the first time, proposes a "template sticker" method, in which sacrificial templates for microfluidic components are batch-produced in the form of standardized stickers and packaged into a toolbox. This paper presents a novel method of rapidly customizing microfluidic systems using a consumer-grade inkjet printer and a commercially available superhydrophobic spray. By casting polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) on liquid templates that are defined by inkjet-printed hydrophilic patterns on superhydrophobically-coated PDMS substrates, microfluidic devices can be directly fabricated. Utilizing the interfacial properties of the superhydrophobic coating and the template liquid, the fabrication of microfluidics could be done with minimum effort and expertise, and unlike previously reported works, no mask and bonding process is necessary.
