Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is a well-established and efficient method of causative treatment for allergic rhinitis, asthma and insect venom allergy. Traditionally, a recent history of malignant neoplasm is regarded as a contraindication to AIT due to concerns that AIT might stimulate tumor growth. However, there are no data confirming that the silencing of the Th2 response affects prognosis in cancer.

In vitro and animal studies have indicated that TP53 also responds to metabolic changes and influences metabolic pathways. This study was undertaken to determine the serum level of TP53 and its correlations with clinical and biochemical parameters in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients in comparison to non-diabetic control individuals.

The aim of this work was to determine the role of the efficiency of base excision repair, both in lymphocytes and in epithelial tissue, in patients with CRC and healthy subjects. SNPs were identified within genes responsible for steps following glycosylase action in BER, and patients and healthy subjects were genotyped.

We investigated whether -553 T/A FGF2 gene polymorphism is associated with the risk and progression of BC in Polish women.
Material And Methods: The -553 T/A polymorphism was genotyped in 230 breast cancer patients and 245 control subjects, using a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) approach.
Aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between polymorphisms of ERCC2 and ERCC5 genes and efficiency of repair of oxidative DNA damage with the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). Experimental material was peripheral blood and tumor slices from CRC collected from 235 patients, 240 people without any cancer were control group. Distribution of polymorphisms of ERCC2 and ERCC5 genes in patients with CRC and healthy subjects, as well as level of oxidative DNA damage in patients and in healthy controls was performed.

Methods: All carriers with clinical and radiological findings suggesting paragangliomas were screened by SRS and 123I-mIBG. Lesions were classified by body regions, i.
Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic skin inflammatory disease in which Th2-derived cytokines play an essential role. Aim of the study was to assess interleukin 4, 10 and 13 (IL-4, IL-10 and IL-13) serum concentrations in AD patients and to correlate the values with the occurrence of genotypes of selected polymorphisms in genes encoding these cytokines.
Material And Methods: Seventy-six AD patients (mean age 11.

The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the level of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), Periostin (POSTN) and Interleukin-4(IL-4) gene expression in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, without polyps and with a nasal septum deviation. The tests were performed on 63 patients (24 women and 39 men) with chronic rhinosinusitis and polyps (CRSwP-study group I), with determination of the COX-2, POSTN and IL-4 gene expression; an allergy was diagnosed in 38 cases. The reference groups were patients with chronic rhinosinusitis without polyps--CRS (n = 23, including 14 women and 9 men) and patients with nasal septum deviation--DSN (n = 18, including 9 women and 9 men).

Studies suggest that at the basis of the process of carcinogenesis can lie reduced efficiency of DNA repair mechanisms, often caused by polymorphisms in DNA repair genes.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their regulators (TIMPs and ILs) have been extensively studied as POAG risk factors. Recent reports have showed several single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for MMPs, TIMPs and ILs encoding genes in patients with POAG.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: It has been suggested that the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) are involved in the degradation of extracellular matrix components, resulting in ocular tissue damage. The -735C/T and -1306C/T polymorphisms recognized in the promoter region of the MMP-2 gene resulting in its expression level were investigated in association with the development of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) in a Polish population.
Methods: DNA samples collected from 271 patients with POAG and 281 healthy controls were used in this study.
Oxidative damage has been implicated in the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer (CRC). The base excision repair (BER) pathway is the major DNA repair pathway for oxidative DNA damage and genetic variation associated with impaired BER might thus increase a risk of CRC. In this work, we evaluated associations between the repair efficiency of oxidative DNA lesions and single-nucleotide polymorphisms of BER genes: the 194Trp/Arg and the 399Arg/Gln XRCC1, the 326Ser/Cys OGG1 and the 324Gln/His MUTYH and CRC occurrence in a Polish population.

Material And Methods: Genotypes were determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method.
Introduction: It is believed that local factors within the nasal cavities contribute to the formation of nasal polyps. The disruption of local homeostasis mechanisms in a chronic inflammatory process is one of those factors. Cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 expression is activated in the course of the immune response to extracellular and intracellular stimuli.

Its high level positively correlates with clinical stage of malignancy and is a negative prognostic factor. This suggests a possible relationship between functional polymorphisms of the MMP-7 gene and susceptibility to development of colorectal cancer and an aggressive course of the disease.
