Here we document one obstacle faced by creative ideas: as ideas become more novel-that is, they depart more from existing norms and standards-disagreement grows about their potential value. Specifically, across multiple contexts, using both experimental methods (four studies, total n = 1,801) and analyses of archival data, we find that there is more variability in judgements of the value of more novel (versus less novel) ideas.

In this study, the feasibility of promoting microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) in mine waste piles by using an environmental bacterial enrichment is explored, with goals to reduce metals and acid leaching. MICP has been explored for remediation applications and stabilization of mine waste. In today's knowledge economy, effectively signaling one's creative potential can be advantageous. Five experiments demonstrate that cues signaling a person's separateness from others (as opposed to social connectedness) boost evaluations of their creative potential. Creativity is highly valued in organizations as an important source of innovation. As most creative projects require the efforts of groups of individuals working together, it is important to understand how creativity is perceived for team products, including how observers attribute creative ability to focal actors who worked as part of a creative team. Objectives: To determine, by consensus, the optimal use of leflunomide in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), using a multidisciplinary panel of experts and performing meta-analyses of available data.
Methods: A multidisciplinary panel of experts in RA was convened. Important questions, pertinent to the use of leflunomide in the treatment of RA, were defined by consensus at an initial meeting.
Lipid accumulation by vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) is a feature of atherosclerotic plaques. In this study we describe two mechanisms whereby human VSMC foam cell formation is driven by de novo synthesis of fatty acids leading to triacylglycerol accumulation in intracellular vacuoles, a process distinct from serum lipoprotein uptake. VSMC cultured in adipogenic differentiation medium accumulated lipids and were induced to express the adipocyte marker genes adipsin, adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein, C/EBPalpha, PPARgamma, and leptin.
