Black aluminum is a material characterized by high surface porosity due to columnar growth and exhibits unique optical properties that make it attractive for applications such as light trapping, infrared detection, and passive thermal radiation cooling. In this study, we correlate the structural and optical properties of black aluminum by comparing it with conventional reflective aluminum layers. These layers of varying thicknesses were deposited on fused silica substrates, and their optical properties were analyzed.

The microstructure and physical properties of reflective and black aluminum were compared for layers of different thicknesses deposited by magnetron sputtering on fused silica substrates. Reflective Al layers followed the Volmer-Weber growth mechanism classically observed for polycrystalline metal films. On the contrary, the extra nitrogen gas used to deposit the black aluminum layers modified the growth mechanism and changed the film morphologies.

Purpose: We aimed to assess whether the presence of contaminants in the pre-operative urine culture (preop-UC) predicts postoperative urinary tract infection (postop-UTI) in patients undergoing elective ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed from 01/2019 to 12/2021 examining patients with unilateral stone burden ≤ 2 cm who underwent ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy and had a preop-UC within 3 months. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Norway spruce ointments on wound healing of castration wounds in piglets. This study included 95 male pigs randomly divided into five treatment groups: Norway spruce balm (Vulpuran), Norway spruce resin (Abilar), pork lard (ointment base of Vulpuran), no treatment (negative control) and antibiotic blue spray (Cyclo spray, positive control). Reactivation of endogenous neurogenesis in the adult brain or spinal cord holds the key for treatment of central nervous system injuries and neurodegenerative disorders, which are major health care issues for the world's aging population. We have previously shown that activation of developmental integrative nuclear fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) signaling (INFS), via gene transfection, reactivates neurogenesis in the adult brain by promoting neuronal differentiation of brain neural stem/progenitor cells (NS/PCs). In the present study, we report that targeting the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α7nAChRs) with a specific TC-7020 agonist led to a robust accumulation of endogenous FGFR1 in the cell nucleus.

In the sera of 58 bronchial cancer patients with different TNM progression stage the relative 125I-C1q binding activities (BA) were determined before, after an induction of polychemotherapy and after a simultaneous polychemo- plus X-rays therapy. Only a statistically non-significant decrease of the 125I-C1q-BA was measured in the sera of patient groups with a stronger metastatic spread in the regional lymph nodes or distant metastasis.
