[Endovascular prosthetic repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm combined with crossover femorofemoral bypass grafting].

In pronounced concomitant pathology and high risks of open operative treatment endovascular prosthetic repair of the abdominal aorta is a method of choice. Presented herein is a clinical case report concerning successful surgical treatment of a patient with an aneurysm of the infrarenal portion of the aorta and high risk of open operative treatment. The patient underwent unilateral endovascular prosthetic repair of the abdominal aortic aneurysm and crossover femoro-femoral bypass grafting with a good postoperative outcome.

Biological activities of marine sesquiterpenoid quinones: structure-activity relationships in cytotoxic and hemolytic assays.

Sesquiterpenoid quinones from marine sponges and their semisynthetic derivatives were compared for cytotoxicity on developing eggs of sea urchin Strongylocentrotus nudus and Ehrlich carcinoma cells, and for hemolytic activities on mice red blood cells. Structure-activity studies showed that activities of these compounds with a hydroxyl group at C-20 ((2), (7)) were higher than their methoxyl ((1), (8)) and amino ((4), (5)) derivatives at this position. Sesquiterpenoid quinones containing a dihydropyran ring ((10)-(12)) had lower activity than noncyclic compounds.

Characterization of Pseudoalteromonas distincta-like sea-water isolates and description of Pseudoalteromonas aliena sp. nov.

Seven melanogenic Pseudoalteromonas distincta-like strains, KMM 3562T, KMM 3536, KMM 3537, KMM 3538, KMM 3539, KMM 3615 and KMM 3629, which expressed tyrosinases were isolated from sea-water samples collected from different locations in Amursky Bay (Sea of Japan, Pacific Ocean) and characterized to clarify their taxonomic position. By 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, the bacteria were shown to belong to the genus Pseudoalteromonas. The G + C content of the DNAs of the strains was 41-43 mol%.

New glycosides of the fungus Acremonium striatisporum isolated from a sea cucumber.

Four new diterpene glycosides, virescenosides R (1), S (2), T (3), and U (4), have been isolated from a marine strain of Acremonium striatisporum KMM 4401 associated with the holothurian Eupentacta fraudatrix. Their structures have been elucidated on the basis of HRFABMS, 1D and 2D NMR (1H, 13C, DEPT, COSY-45, COSY-RCT, HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY spectra), and the results of acidic hydrolysis as 19-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->6)-beta-d-altropyranosyl]-isopimara-7,15-diene-2alpha,3beta-diol (1), 19-O-beta-D-altropyranosyl-3-oxo-isopimara-8(14),15-diene-7alpha-ol (2), 19-O-beta-D-altropyranosyl-3,7-dioxo-isopimara-8,15-diene (3), and 19-O-beta-D-altropyranosyl-3,7-dioxo-isopimara-8(14),15-diene (4). The cytotoxic activity of the virescenosides was examined.

Biological activities of steroid glycosides from starfish.

Glycosides of polyhydroxysteroids from starfish were compared with regard to hemolytic activities on mouse red blood cells and cytotoxicity on developing eggs of sea urchin Strongylocentrotus intermedius. Mediasteroside M(1) from Mediaster murrayi with a 2-O-methyl group at a xylose residue exerted lower activity than mediasteroside M(2) without this group. Ceramasteroside C(2) from Ceramaster patagonicus having a 2,4-di-O-Me-Xylp residue had more activity in comparison with ceramasteroside C(3) with 2-O-Me-Xylp.

Two new minor polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins from the marine sponge Dysidea dendyi.

Two new minor tribromodibenzo-p-dioxins, spongiadioxin C (1) and its methyl ether (2), were isolated from an Australian marine sponge Dysidea dendyi, together with the known minor metabolites methyl ethers of spongiadioxins A (4) and B (6) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (7-9). The structures of the new compounds were established by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy and confirmed by synthesis of 2 from diphenyl ether 9. All isolated compounds inhibited the cell division of fertilized sea urchin eggs.

New diterpenic altrosides of the fungus Acremonium striatisporum isolated from a sea cucumber.

Two new diterpenic glycosides, virescenosides M (1) and N (2), have been isolated from a marine strain of Acremonium striatisporum KMM 4401 associated with the holothurian Eupentacta fraudatrix. Their structures were determined on the basis of MS and NMR data as beta-D-altropyranosido-19-7-oxo-isopimara-8,15-diene-2alp ha, 3beta-diol (1) and beta-D-altropyranosido-19-isopimara-7, 15-diene-2alpha,3beta,6beta-triol (2). Three other altrosides (3-5), identified as virescenosides A, B, and C from the terrestrial strain Acremonium luzulae, were also isolated.

The membranotropic activity of cyclic acyldepsipeptides from bacterium Bacillus pumilus, associated with the marine sponge Ircinia sp.

The isolate of Bacillus pumilus associated with the marine sponge Ircinia sp. produced the surfactin-like lipopeptides, cyclic acyldepsipeptides. The hemolytic activity of individual cyclic acyldepsipeptides, bacircines (BI) 2, 3, 4, 5 and 5A having different acyl side chain structures (anteiso-C13, iso-C14, normal-C14, anteiso-C15, and iso-C15, respectively) was studied.

[The mechanism of the interaction of the pH-dependent cytostatic cauloside C with the membranes of tumor cells and liposomes].

The effect of the medium pH on accumulation of [3H]-cauloside C by tumor cells, its intracellular localization, and interaction of the glicoside with membranes of tumor cells and liposomes has been studied. The shift towards weakly acids pH leads to the increase in the amount of cauloside C accumulated by tumor cells and changes the pattern of interaction of cauloside C with the membranes.

[The effect of the somatic afferentation on the activity of the respiratory center].

Contraction of the muscles of flexing and stretching hind-limbs changed the indexes of external respiration and activity of the medulla neurons. The neurons of the respiratory center differed in direction and intensity of their responses and ability of convergence of afferent signals from both muscles. The ways of afferents from flexing and stretching muscles into the respiratory center were studied with the method of evoked potentials.

[Stimulation of nonspecific body resistance by mytilan, a polysaccharide isolated from the mussel. Crenomytilis grayanus].

The results of the study on the immunostimulant effect of mytilan, a polysaccharide isolated from Crenomytilus grayanus inhabiting the Sea of Japan are presented. It was shown that a single dose of the drug administered parenterally stimulated the natural protective reactions of the macroorganism evident from an increase in the leukocyte count in the peripheral blood of the experimental animals and the phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear nuclear leukocytes. Mytilan stimulated humoral immunity.
