Blood Serum Levels of Proinflammatory Cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, TNFα, IL-8, IL-12p70, and IFNγ) in Patients with Uterine Myoma.

We analyzed cytokine profile in blood serum of patients with uterine myoma and revealed significantly reduced level of IFNγ and a tendency towards a decrease in the levels of IL-1β and TNFα; the levels of IL-6, IL-8, and IL-12p70 did not differ from those in healthy women. The drop in the concentrations of factors responsible for inflammation and angiogenesis in tissues are unfavorable for proliferation and differentiation of the uterine tissues.

Effect of ultrasound on the synthesis of low-modulus zeolites from a metakaolin.

It was studied the effect of ultrasonic processing (22kHz) of the aqueous suspension of metakaolin, sodium hydroxide and alumina with a molar ratio 2Al2Si2O7:12NaOH:2Al2O3 on the low-modulus zeolite synthesis processes. To investigate the XRD, SEM, IR, EDS had been used. It was shown that after ultrasonic processing, sodium aluminates are formed, what leads to a change in process of further synthesis.

[Cytokine gene polymorphisms in patients with age-related macular degeneration].

Aim: To establish possible association between age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cytokine genotype polymorphisms; for that promoter regions of a number of cytokine genes were studied, namely, TNF-A863C, TNF-A308G, TNF-A238G, IL1β-C-31T, IL4-C590T, IL6-C174G, and IL10A-1082G.

Material And Methods: A total of 102 AMD and 100 non-AMD participants in the same age range were examined at the Novosibirsk branch of the Academician S.N.

Individual Parameters of Cytokine Production in Healthy Siberian Caucasians.

The levels of spontaneous and concanavalin A-induced production of some key cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-4, Il-6, and IL-10) were assessed in the cultures of mononuclear cells derived from healthy volunteers examined for polymorphism of the promotor sites of the respective genes. The presence of certain allelic variants in the promoter regions of human cytokine genes mostly determines the rates of induced and spontaneous cytokine production. Allelic variant -31C of IL-1β gene is associated with high production rate of the related cytokine.

Visible emission from Ag(+) exchanged SOD zeolites.

Broad visible emissions dominant at green or red have been observed for the thermally-treated Ag(+) exchanged SOD zeolites, determined by the Ag(+) loading contents and the excitation wavelengths. Contrary to the notable reversible green/red dominant emission evolution in the Ag(+) exchanged LTA zeolites upon hydration/dehydration in air (or water vapor)/vacuum, emission spectra of the Ag(+) exchanged SOD zeolites are insensitive to the environmental change. This is most probably due to the difficult H2O permeation in SOD zeolites in comparison with LTA zeolites.

[Analysis of genotype combinations at the polymorphic points of the promoter regions of the genes of three matrix metalloproteinases and the gene of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in patients with history of acute myocardial infarction].

Aim: To analyze the association of the promoter polymorphism of the genes of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) MMP2 (-1306), MMP3 (-1171), and MMP9 (-1562) and two vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene regulatory regions (-2578, +936) with the development of myocardial infarction (MI).

Materials And Methods: DNA was analyzed in 251 patients with a history of MI. Five polymorphic positions were genotyped by restrictase analysis of amplification products, by using specific primers.

Behavioral responses of D. chromatophora cercariae to light were studied in laboratory experiments. Cercariae demonstrated positive phototaxis that was especially pronoun- ced during the first hour of cercarial free life in the environment.

Effect of plastoquinone derivative 10-(6'-plastoquinonyl) decyltriphenylphosphonium (SkQ1) on estrous cycle and 17β-estradiol level in rats.

Administration of the plastoquinone derivative 10-(6'-plastoquinonyl)decyltriphenylphosphonium (SkQ1) to female Wistar rats with regular estrous cycle once a day for two weeks at doses of 25 nmol/kg (but not 250 nmol/kg) leads to increase in proestrus duration by reducing the phase of diestrus and metestrus. Neither dose caused significant changes in serum 17β-estradiol level for any stage of the cycle. However, relative elongation of the proestrus stage leads to an increase in average per cycle estradiol levels by 20%.

[Cytokine gene polymorphism in type 2 diabetes mellitus in Russian women from eastern Europe].

Aim: To study the distribution of genotypes in the cytokine genes and their combinations with immunoregulatory activity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and in healthy women.

Subjects And Methods: 586 Europeoid women from the eastern regions of Russia, including 374 healthy women aged 23-68 years and 212 women aged 28-69 years with T2DM complicated and uncomplicated by osteoporosis, were examined. Seven polymorphisms located in the promoter regions of the interleukin (IL) gene: TNF-alpha at positions C-863A, G-308A, G-238A, IL1B T-31C, IL6 G-174C, IL10 C-592A, VEGFA C-2578A were investigated.

We have conducted an analysis of distribution in groups of healthy male and female survivors of myocardial infarction (MI) of combined genetic signs represented as a complex of genotypes of a number of studied cytokine genes : TNF-A863C; TNF-A308G; TNF-A238G; IL1B-C511T; IL1B-C-31T; IL4-C590T; IL6-C174G; IL10A-1082G IL10-A592C.

[Clonal variability in expression of geo- and photoorientation in cercariae of Himasthla elongata (Trematoda: Echinostomatidae)].

The study was carried out on Himasthla elongata, a digenean common in the coastal ecosystems of the northern European seas. This species utilises intertidal prosobranchs Littorina spp. as the first intermediate host, bivalves (in the White Sea, Mytilus edulis) as the second intermediate host and gulls as the final host.

[Chemiluminescence analysis of oil oxidizing bacteria Actinetobacter calcoaceticus extracts: effects of the extracts on pSoxS-lux biosensor].

A comparative H2O2-luminol- and Fe(II)-induced chemiluminescence analysis of extracts of two strains of marine oil oxidizing bacteria Actinetobacter calcoaceticus cultivated either in the presence or absence of oil was carried out. Effects of these extracts on E. coli MG1655 biosensor (pSoxS-lux) were studied.

Effect of plastoquinone derivative 10-(6'-plastoquinonyl)decyltriphenylphosphonium (SkQ1) on contents of steroid hormones and NO level in rats.

Introduction of the plastoquinone derivative 10-(6'-plastoquinonyl)decyltriphenylphosphonium (SkQ1) into male Wistar rats once a day for two weeks in doses of 25 and 250 nmol/kg led to elevation of 17β-estradiol level in blood serum by 33 and 41%, respectively. At the same time, nitrate and nitrite contents in the rat blood serum increased by 49 and 34%, respectively. ESR spectroscopy with diethyldithiocarbamateiron complex as a spin trap showed more than twofold increase in NO production in lungs, but not in blood, liver, and intestines, following the SkQ1 daily introduction at a dose of 25 nmol/kg.

[Distribution of allelic variants of promotor sites of cytokine genes and endothelial growth factor gene among healthy subjects and patients with rheumatoid arthritis in a Russian Europeoid population].

The article reports results of the first study of cytokine gene polymorphic sites and analysis of distribution of their complexes among healthy subjects and patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) representative of the Russian Europeoid population; their possible prognostic significance is evaluated. Comprehensive analysis of the frequency of allelic variants of cytokine genes IL1B C-31T, IL6 G-174C, TNFA A-238G, TNFA A-308G, TNFA A-863C, IL4 C-590T, IL10 A-592C and VEGF C-2578A was performed for 513 residents of the Novosibirsk region showing no obvious signs of any diseases and 125 RA patients. The results suggest association of RA with certain alleles of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine genes.

[Effect of some pharmacological substances on the motility of the Cryptocotyle lingua cercaria (Heterophyidae)].

The effect of some biologically active substances (acetylcholine, serotonin, octopamine, sodium nitroprussid and FMRF-amide) on the motility of the Cryptocotyle lingua cercariae was studied. [Influence of infrared cold laser radiation emission on free radical processes in various tissues of rats with circulatory cerebral hypoxia].

Influence of infrared cold laser emission (IRCL) on the dynamic equilibrium between lipid peroxidation and tension of the antioxidant defense system in rat's tissues (blood, brain, retina, cornea) was evaluated in animals with circulatory cerebral hypoxia induced by occlusion of the left carotid artery. Tissues of white rats were examined for IRCL effects on hemiluminescence, malonic dialdehyde, SOD and catalase activities on the background of circulatory cerebral hypoxia. Data of the experiment evidenced an antioxidant effect of posthypoxic IRCL therapy as it reduces intensity of the free radical processes in plasma, cerebral tissues and retina.

[Role of ligation of the external carotid artery in the treatment of malignant tumors of the tongue].

This paper presents analysis of the efficiency of ligation of the external carotid arteries in the treatment of malignant tumors of the tongue, based on the data of Department of Head and Neck Diseases of Tver Regional Clinical Oncological Center for two recent decades. A total of 87 case histories of patients in whom 26 ligations of the external carotid artery were performed, are analyzed. This operation is used if the tumor is located in the posterior third and root of the tongue and if it involves the tissues of the bottom of the oral cavity.

[Comparison of resistance to environmental factors of the molluscs Hydrobia ulvae infected with trematoda parthenitae and free from infection].

The influence of trematode infection, mainly with Microphallus claviformis, onto the resistance of mudsnails Hydrobia ulvae to fresh water, desiccation and extremely high temperature has been investigated. It was found out in all variants of experiments that the intensity of mortality in infected individuals is reliably higher than in individuals free of infection. It is suggested, that the negative influence of parasites on the resistance of hosts is related to the disturbance of molluscs' capability to isolate themselves from extremal condition by shutting up the shell with operculum.
