The endoscopic endonasal approach is more disruptive to normal anatomy (particularly nasal mucosa) than the transseptal submucosal microscopic approach. This may result in greater postoperative nasal morbidity, in turn reducing quality of life. We aimed to assess the severity and time course of nasal morbidity, and its impact on quality of life, following endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery in this retrospective cohort study.

Although, there is currently a push towards an increased focus on compensatory approaches in an attempt to maximize communication function for social interaction, available studies including AAC systems, especially technologically advanced communication tools and systems, known as 'high-technology AAC', show key issues and obstacles for these tools to become utilized in mainstream clinical practice. Areas covered: The current review synthesizes communication intervention studies that involved the use of high-technology communication devices to enhance linguistic communication skills for adults with post-stroke aphasia.

Patients And Methods: The results of the Bedside Assessment of Language (BAL) was studied in 121 aphasic patients and in 77 dysarthric patients after brain injury.
A one-day survey was conducted in all (19) Slovenian acute-care hospitals in October 2001 to estimate the prevalence of all types of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) and to identify predominant micro-organisms and risk factors. Among 6695 patients surveyed, the prevalence of patients with at least one HAI was 4.6%.
