In the context of global climate change and the increasing need to study plant response to drought, there is a demand for easily, rapidly, and remotely measurable parameters that sensitively reflect leaf water status. Parameters with this potential include those derived from leaf spectral reflectance (R) and chlorophyll fluorescence. As each of these methods probes completely different leaf characteristics, their sensitivity to water loss may differ in different plant species and/or under different circumstances, making it difficult to choose the most appropriate method for estimating water status in a given situation.

Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of diabetic macular edema (DME) therapy using subthreshold micropulse laser (SMPL) with a wavelength of 577 nm during a long-term monitoring period of 5 years.
Methods: The cohort included the total number of 52 eyes of 34 patients with DME. All underwent the standard laser treatment for the diabetic retinopathy outside the macula and DME treatment with SMPL.
Seasonally slowly melting mountain snowfields are populated by extremophilic microalgae. In alpine habitats, high-light sensitive, green phytoflagellates are usually observed in subsurface layers deeper in the snowpack under dim conditions, while robust orange to reddish cyst stages can be seen exposed on the surface. In this study, uncommon surface green snow was investigated in the High Tatra Mountains (Slovakia).

The present study aims to assess the safety and performance of the intra-articular (IA) viscosupplementing agent HYALGO, a formulation combining 40 mg/mL HA (>1700 kDa) and 40 mg/mL CS, in the treatment of patients suffering from knee OA.
Methods: 74 patients affected by knee lesions classified as grade II and III according to Kellgren and Lawrence classification were prospectively recruited and treated with three HYALGO injections (2 mL) given one week apart.

Molecular data (18S rRNA and rbcL genes) showed a close relationship to published sequences from an American pond alga formerly identified as Kremastochrysis sp. The genera Kremastochrysis and Kremastochrysopsis are morphologically distinguished by the number of flagella observed with the light microscope, and therefore we assigned the Austrian snow alga and an American pond alga to the genus Kremastochrysopsis.
