Article Synopsis
  • Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is the most common large vessel vasculitis, making its diagnosis challenging, necessitating scoring systems to help clinicians assess patient risk.
  • A retrospective study analyzed medical records of patients referred for temporal artery biopsy (TAB) and ultrasound (USS) for suspected GCA from June 2014 to January 2019, including 174 patients after excluding those with prior diagnoses.
  • Results indicated that the scoring system effectively predicted biopsy-positive GCA outcomes, with no misclassifications in the low-risk biopsy group, while 8% of the low-risk ultrasound group were misclassified, showing the need for careful assessment in ultrasound results.
