The 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) triggered a rapidly expanding global pandemic. The presence of obesity in patients with COVID-19 has been established as a risk factor for disease severity, hospital admission, and mortality. Thus, it is imperative those living with obesity be vaccinated against COVID-19.

We report a case of a 93-year-old woman with PHPT secondary to a left inferior parathyroid adenoma. The patient met criteria to be a surgical candidate; however, literature about parathyroidectomy in the elderly was limited and controversial. The patient remained stable through medical management for the next 5 years.

Objectives: Inpatients with extended length of stay (LOS), referred to as LOS outliers, pose a challenge to health systems by contributing to high costs while assuming all the risks associated with hospital-acquired conditions. Limited research has been conducted within the US health system to better define LOS outliers and the risk factors for becoming an outlier in the setting of inpatient medicine stays.

Study Design: This was a retrospective study on adult inpatient admissions to the general medicine service of a university hospital from September 2015 to August 2016.

We present a rare case report of a patient diagnosed with primary plasma cell leukemia (PCL) who presented with atypical signs and symptoms which acutely evolved into life-threatening multi-organ failure. This case raises questions regarding the latest diagnostic guidelines and therapeutic options in the management of acute PCL and reinforces the need for prompt treatment after diagnosis.
