Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluated the volume and shape of the middle region of the pharynx in adolescents, focusing on different craniofacial skeletal patterns classified by the ANB angle.
  • A total of 126 patients underwent cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) to measure pharyngeal volume and areas, revealing significant differences in the volume of the velopharynx (VP) between Class II and Class III individuals.
  • Findings indicated that Class II subjects have a smaller VP volume, and both total volume and minimum axial area decrease as the ANB angle increases, with some differences noted based on sex.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of magnification and superimposition of structures on CBCT-generated lateral cephalometric radiographs (LCR) using different segments of the cranium.

Methods: CBCT scans of 10 patients were selected. Four LCR were generated using Dolphin Imaging(r) software: full-face, right side, left side and center of the head.

Introduction: Our objective was to assess the intraexaminer and interexaminer reliabilities of upper airway linear, area, and volumetric measurements in cone-beam computed tomography.

Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography scans of 12 subjects were randomly selected from a pool of 132 orthodontic patients. An undergraduate student, an orthodontist, and a dental radiologist independently made linear, area, and volumetric measurements.
