Efficacy of different methods of compression therapy and its relation to venous disease and obesity.

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of different methods of interfacial elastic compression and their association with obesity and chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).

Methods: Forty legs with vascular disease and 40 control legs were analyzed. Four different methods of elastic compression were applied and interface pressure was measured.

Instruments for Patient Safety Assessment: A Scoping Review.

Background: Patient safety is an important component of healthcare service quality, and there are numerous instruments in the literature that measure patient safety. This scoping reviewaims to map the instruments/scales for assessing patient safety in healthcare services.

Method: This scoping review follows the JBI methodology.

Brazilian nursing specific situation, middle and micro-range theories: a bibliometric study.

Objectives: to map the nursing theories developed in stricto sensu graduate programs in nursing in Brazil.

Methods: a bibliometric study, carried out on the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel Theses and Dissertations Portal in October 2023. The controlled descriptors "Nursing Theory" and "Nursing Models" and the uncontrolled descriptors "Theories" and "Middle-Range Theory" were used.

Contributions of representing the elements of nursing practice in the ISO 18.104:2023 standard: a theoretical study.

Objective: To reflect on the contributions of representing nursing practice elements in the ISO 18.104:2023 standard.

Method: This is a theoretical study with standard analysis.

Systematization of Nursing Care: how did the concept mature?

Objectives: to analyze the Systematization of Nursing Care conceptual maturation from the perspective of pragmatic utility.

Methods: a concept analysis study. The stages were: select the concept; elaborate analytical questions; comprehensively review the literature; and determine concept structural components.

Elaboration and implementation of a protocol for the Golden Hour of premature newborns using an Implementation Science lens.

Objective: describe the process of designing and implementing a care protocol for the first hour of life of premature newborns.

Method: a participatory research study using an implementation science framework, the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) was employed to determine drivers and facilitators of implementation success of the Golden Hour protocol for newborns at a large university hospital in southeastern Brazil. A multi-professional team, including first line providers and managers participated in six stages of quality improvement: situational diagnosis; protocol elaboration; training protocol implementation; barrier and facilitator assessment; and protocol monitoring and review.

Body image of women during breastfeeding: analysis supported by nursing theory.

Objective: To describe and interpret a woman's perception of her body image during the breastfeeding process.

Method: Descriptive qualitative study conducted at a university hospital in the Southeast region, Brazil. Forty-three puerperal women who were breastfeeding were interviewed.

DNA topoisomerase 1 represses HIV-1 promoter activity through its interaction with a guanine quadruplex present in the LTR sequence.

Background: Once integrated in the genome of infected cells, HIV-1 provirus is transcribed by the cellular transcription machinery. This process is regulated by both viral and cellular factors, which are necessary for an efficient viral replication as well as for the setting up of viral latency, leading to a repressed transcription of the integrated provirus.

Results: In this study, we examined the role of two parameters in HIV-1 LTR promoter activity.

Elaboration of a nursing record standard for an Emergency Care Unit.

Objective: To develop a registration standard with diagnoses, outcomes and nursing interventions for an Emergency Care Unit.

Method: This is applied research of technological development developed in three steps: elaboration of diagnoses/outcomes and interventions statements following the International Classification for Nursing Practice; assessment of diagnosis/outcome relevance; organization of diagnosis/outcome and interventions statements according to health needs described in TIPESC.

Results: A total of 185 diagnoses were prepared, of which 124 (67%) were constant in the classification, and 61 had no correspondence.

Do conformational changes contribute to the surface plasmon resonance signal?

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based biosensors are widely used instruments for characterizing molecular interactions. In theory the SPR signal depends only on mass changes for interacting molecules of same chemical nature. Whether conformational changes of interacting molecules also contribute to the SPR signal is still a subject of lively debates.

Guide for Systematization of Care and Nursing Process: educational technology for professional practice.

Objective: to elaborate and validate the content of a digital guide educational technology on Systematization of Nursing Care and Nursing Process.

Methods: applied research of technological development, developed between 2020 and 2021, in three steps. First, a scoping review was carried out to elaborate the content.

Aptamer-based nanotrains and nanoflowers as quinine delivery systems.

In this study, we designed aptamer-based self-assemblies for the delivery of quinine. Two different architectures were designed by hybridizing quinine binding aptamers and aptamers targeting lactate dehydrogenase (PfLDH): nanotrains and nanoflowers. Nanotrains consisted in controlled assembly of quinine binding aptamers through base-pairing linkers.

Risk management: implementation of a clinical protocol for the prevention and management of pediatric falls.

Objective: To describe the process of elaboration and implementation of a protocol for the prevention and management of pediatric falls.

Method: This was an actionresearch developed at a public hospital in Southeast Brazil with 10 members of the multidisciplinary team from the pediatrics, maternity, neonatal intensive care sectors, and the patient safety center. To elaborate the protocol, literature review, three meetings with the group, and two rounds ofonline correction were carried out.

Neuropeptides, New Ligands of SARS-CoV-2 Nucleoprotein, a Potential Link between Replication, Inflammation and Neurotransmission.

This work identifies new ligands of the nucleoprotein N of SARS-CoV-2 by in silico screening, which used a new model of N, built from an Alphafold model refined by molecular dynamic simulations. The ligands were neuropeptides, such as substance P (1-7) and enkephalin, bound at a large site of the C-terminal or associated with the N-terminal β-sheet. The BA4 and BA5 Omicron variants of N also exhibited a large site as in wt N, and an increased flexibility of the BA5 variant, enabling substance P binding.

MMP7 cleavage of amino-terminal CD95 death receptor switches signaling toward non-apoptotic pathways.

CD95 is a death receptor that can promote oncogenesis through molecular mechanisms that are not fully elucidated. Although the mature CD95 membrane receptor is considered to start with the arginine at position 17 after elimination of the signal peptide, this receptor can also be cleaved by MMP7 upstream of its leucine at position 37. This post-translational modification occurs in cancer cells but also in normal cells such as peripheral blood leukocytes.

Severity of Food Insecurity among Australian University Students, Professional and Academic Staff.

Assessments of the severity of food insecurity within Australian university students are lacking, and the experience of food insecurity in Australian university staff is unknown. A cross-sectional online survey in March 2022 aimed to characterize the severity of food insecurity in students, professional and academic staff at the University of Tasmania (UTAS). The Household Food Security Survey Module six-item short form assessed food security status in addition to seven demographic and education characteristics for students and six demographic and employment characteristics for staff.

Plasma membrane H-ATPases promote TORC1 activation in plant suspension cells.

The TORC1 (Target of Rapamycin Complex 1) kinase complex plays a pivotal role in controlling cell growth in probably all eukaryotic species. The signals and mechanisms regulating TORC1 have been intensely studied in mammals but those of fungi and plants are much less known. We have previously reported that the yeast plasma membrane H-ATPase Pma1 promotes TORC1 activation when stimulated by cytosolic acidification or nutrient-uptake-coupled H influx.

Prevalence of postpartum depression symptoms and their association with violence: a cross-sectional study, Cariacica, Espírito Santo, Brazil, 2017.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of postpartum depression symptoms among puerperal women and their association with violence.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with puerperal women cared for at a public maternity hospital in Cariacica, ES, Brazil, in 2017. A questionnaire prepared by the authors and validated instruments were used.

Selective endocytosis followed by degradation is a major mechanism for downregulating plasma membrane transporters in response to specific environmental cues. In this endocytosis is promoted by ubiquitylation catalyzed by the Rsp5 ubiquitin-ligase, targeted to transporters via adaptors of the alpha-arrestin family. However, the molecular mechanisms of this targeting and their control according to conditions remain incompletely understood.
