Background: Blood proteins are frequently measured in serum or plasma, because they provide a wealth of information. Differences in the ex vivo processing of serum and plasma raise concerns that proteomic health and disease signatures derived from serum or plasma differ in content and quality. However, little is known about their respective power to predict feto-maternal health outcomes.

Introduction: Augmented reality (AR) superimposes high-definition computer-generated virtual content onto the existing environment, providing users with an enhanced perception of reality. This study investigates the feasibility of integrating an AR head-mounted device into a 3-dimensional dynamic navigation system (3D-DNS) for osteotomy and root-end resection (RER). It compares the accuracy and efficiency of AR + 3D-DNS to 3D-DNS for osteotomy and RER.

Fire has shaped global ecosystems for millennia by directly killing organisms and indirectly altering habitats and resources. All terrestrial ecosystems, including fire-prone ecosystems, rely on soil-inhabiting fungi, where they play vital roles in ecological processes. Yet our understanding of how fire regimes influence soil fungi remains limited and our knowledge of these interactions in semiarid landscapes is virtually absent.

Oceanic island floras are well known for their morphological peculiarities and exhibit striking examples of trait evolution. These morphological shifts are commonly attributed to insularity and are thought to be shaped by the biogeographical processes and evolutionary histories of oceanic islands. However, the mechanisms through which biogeography and evolution have shaped the distribution and diversity of plant functional traits remain unclear.

Transcription factors (TFs) bind combinatorially to genomic cis-regulatory elements (cREs), orchestrating transcription programs. While studies of chromatin state and chromosomal interactions have revealed dynamic neurodevelopmental cRE landscapes, parallel understanding of the underlying TF binding lags. To elucidate the combinatorial TF-cRE interactions driving mouse basal ganglia development, we integrated ChIP-seq for twelve TFs, H3K4me3-associated enhancer-promoter interactions, chromatin and transcriptional state, and transgenic enhancer assays.

Incivility is a common issue within healthcare in the UK and internationally. Experienced by at least one-third of staff within the UK National Health Service, incivility has been demonstrated to have significant negative implications on both patient care and healthcare staff. These include contributing to direct medical errors, diagnostic inaccuracy and team communication, with a large associated cost burden, while for staff it has significant negative impacts on retention, productivity and morale.

The latent viral reservoir (LVR) remains a major barrier to HIV-1 curative strategies. It is unknown whether receiving a liver transplant from a donor with HIV might lead to an increase in the LVR because the liver is a large lymphoid organ. We found no differences in intact provirus, defective provirus, or the ratio of intact to defective provirus between recipients with ART-suppressed HIV who received a liver from a donor with (n = 19) or without HIV (n = 10).

The process of macroautophagy plays a pivotal role in the degradation of long-lived, superfluous, and damaged proteins and organelles, which are later recycled for cellular use. Normal cells rely on autophagy to combat various stressors and insults to ensure survival. However, autophagy is often upregulated in cancer cells, promoting a more aggressive phenotype that allows mutated cells to evade death after exposure to therapeutic treatments.

FKBP25 (FKBP3 gene) is a dual-domain PPIase protein that consists of a C-terminal PPIase domain and an N-terminal basic tilted helix bundle (BTHB). The PPIase domain of FKBP25 has been shown to bind to microtubules, which has impacts upon microtubule polymerisation and cell cycle progression. Using quantitative proteomics, it was recently found that FKBP25 was expressed in the top 10% of the mouse skeletal muscle proteome.

Background: Tissue factor (TF) is essential for hemostasis. TF-expressing extracellular vesicles (TF EVs) are released in pathological conditions, such as trauma and cancer, and are linked to thrombosis. Detection of TF EV antigenically in plasma is challenging due to their low concentration but may be of clinical utility.

Background: Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is usually conceptualized as a childhood-onset neurodevelopmental disorder, in which symptoms either decrease steadily into adulthood or remain stable. A recent study challenged this view, reporting that for most with ADHD, diagnostic status fluctuates with age. We ask if such a 'fluctuating' ADHD symptom trajectory subgroup is present in other population-based and clinic-based cohorts, centered on childhood and adolescence.

A new high-pressure single-crystal diffraction setup has been designed and implemented at the Australian Synchrotron for collecting molecular and protein crystal structures. The setup incorporates a modified micro-Merrill-Bassett cell and holder designed specifically to fit onto the horizontal air-bearing goniometer, allowing high-pressure diffraction measurements to be collected with little to no modification of the beamline setup compared with ambient data collections. Compression data for the amino acid, L-threonine, and the protein, hen egg-white lysozyme, were collected, showcasing the capabilities of the setup.

Sex hormones are well known to modulate circadian timekeeping as well as the behavioral and physiological responses to circadian disruption. Gonadectomy, reducing the amount of circulating gonadal hormones, in males and females produces alterations to the free-running rhythm and the responses to light exposure by the central oscillator of the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). In this study, we tested whether estradiol plays a role in regulating the circadian responses to acute (light pulses) and chronic light exposure (constant light [LL] vs standard light:dark [LD] cycle) in female C57BL6/NJ mice.
