The local sweat rate (LSR) response to intradermal electrical stimulation generates a sigmodal stimulus-response curve with a peak sweat rate generated during a 30 s period of continuous stimuli at a frequency of 16 to 32 Hz. However, the firing pattern of the sudomotor nerve resembles more of a bursting pattern. We tested the hypothesis that a bursting pattern during intradermal electrical stimulation would result in a greater sweating response than the regular continuous stimulus pattern.

Unlabelled: species evade degradation and proliferate within alveolar macrophages as an essential step for the manifestation of disease. However, most intracellular bacterial pathogens are restricted in neutrophils, which are the first line of innate immune defense against invading pathogens. Bacterial degradation within neutrophils is mediated by the fusion of microbicidal granules to pathogen-containing phagosomes and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by the phagocyte NADPH oxidase complex.

Predicting the distribution, structure, and biomass of mangrove forests is an area of high research interest. Across the Atlantic East Pacific biogeographic region, three species are common and abundant members of local mangrove communities; , , and . Biomass prediction for these species has relied on two approaches: site-specific allometries based on the idea that environmental/climatic differences between sites drive growth differences, or the use of common allometric equations based on the idea that site driven differences are minimal.

Background: Traumatic carotid artery pseudoaneurysms (PSAs) represent a vascular anomaly with potential for serious complications, including stroke. Traditional treatments involve endovascular stenting, which may not be ideally suited to otherwise healthy vessels that have the potential to remodel. Given the limitations of smaller animal models in replicating human vasculature and the need for improved treatment modalities, this study introduces a novel swine model for the creation and evaluation of carotid PSAs.

Materials synthesis optimization is constrained by serial feedback processes that rely on manual tools and intuition across multiple siloed modes of characterization. We automate and generalize feature extraction of reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) data with machine learning to establish quantitatively predictive relationships in small sets (∼10) of expert-labeled data, saving significant time on subsequently grown samples. These predictive relationships are evaluated in a representative material system (WVSe on c-plane sapphire (0001)) with two aims: 1) predicting grain alignment of the deposited film using pregrowth substrate data and 2) estimating vanadium dopant concentration using in situ RHEED as a proxy for ex situ methods (e.

Inherited retinal degenerations are blinding genetic disorders characterized by high genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity. In this retrospective study, we describe sixteen families with early-onset non-syndromic retinal degenerations in which affected probands carried rare bi-allelic variants in CFAP410, a ciliary gene previously associated with recessive Jeune syndrome. We detected twelve variants, eight of which were novel, including c.
