Introduction: Orthognathic surgery is a fundamental component of a maxillofacial surgeon's practice. In France, 510 specialists actively practice oral and maxillofacial surgery. In OMFs, despite the existence of evidence-based recommendation that address diagnosis, treatment planning, and operating methods, each surgeon/institution has developed an individual approach towards clinical management.

Background: Incurable cancer is a major contributor to societal suffering and disability, and palliative rehabilitation is recommended to be integrated within and between cancer services at all healthcare levels. However, little knowledge exists on how integration of palliative rehabilitation in cancer is understood and achieved in clinical practice. INSPIRE (Integrated short-term palliative rehabilitation to improve quality of life and equitable care access in incurable cancer) is a large European-funded project that aims to promote quality of life through a novel rehabilitation model for people disabled by advanced cancer.

Sincipital meningoencephaloceles (MECs) are rare congenital malformations characterized by the herniation of brain or meningeal tissue through an opening in the anterior floor of the skull base. These malformations always affect the frontal bone, specifically the glabellar region and the naso-frontal angle. A collaboration between Médecins du Monde and the Children's Surgical Center in Phnom Penh has enabled the treatment of over four hundred cases over twenty years.

Background: Obesity drives metabolic disease development. Preventing weight gain during early adulthood could mitigate later-life chronic disease risk. Increased dietary fibre intake, leading to enhanced colonic microbial fermentation and short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production, is associated with lower body weight.

We explored the most suitable osteosynthesis type for mandibular reconstruction using fibula free flap (FFF) given the lack of robust data available. For this, an anonymous survey was e-mailed to 853 head-and-neck surgeons (France) asking about their practices and criteria guiding their osteosynthesis material and method choices. Questions assessed: (1) the most frequently used osteosynthesis type, (2) the explanatory variables related to surgeon career status/surgical specialty, and (3) justifications for osteosynthesis type (scientific, technical, "misuse").

Objective: Evidence suggests that changes in dietary advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) may influence body weight, but the effects of different dietary patterns remain to be explored. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of a Mediterranean and a low-fat vegan diet on dietary AGEs and test their association with body weight.

Materials And Methods: In this randomized cross-over trial, 62 overweight adults were assigned to a Mediterranean or a low-fat vegan diet for 16-week periods in random order, separated by a 4-week washout.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on how proper regulation of communication between cells is essential for the differentiation of cells in plants, particularly in *Arabidopsis thaliana*.
  • - Researchers analyzed gene expression in surrounding somatic and germline cells and found that β-1,3-glucan, a polysaccharide, plays a significant role in cell insulation and signaling through channels called plasmodesmata.
  • - The presence of β-1,3-glucanase in the female germline disrupted this insulation, allowing for changes that affected gene expression and ultimately halted germline development, indicating its crucial role in successful female gamete formation.

Purpose: The literature has for too long described the arterial supply of the mandible as coming from a single artery, the inferior alveolar artery, and being of the terminal type. Rather, it appears to come from an extensive and complex arterial network dependent on the lingual, facial, and maxillary arteries and their collateral branches. Our study aims to confirm and demonstrate the arterial vascular richness of the mandible and to establish arterial mapping.

Background: Double-jaw surgeries are known to be painful and to require opioids. Maxillary (V2) and mandibular (V3) nerves block could provide adequate pain management with minimal opioid-related side effects. Our main objective was to evaluate the analgesic effect of bilateral ultrasound-guided V2 and V3 combined nerves block in patients undergoing double-jaw orthognathic surgery.

Rationale: Heterogeneity of the host response within sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and more widely critical illness, limits discovery and targeting of immunomodulatory therapies. Clustering approaches using clinical and circulating biomarkers have defined hyper-inflammatory and hypo-inflammatory subphenotypes in ARDS associated with differential treatment response. It is unknown if similar subphenotypes exist in sepsis populations where leucocyte transcriptomic-defined subphenotypes have been reported.

Background: The primary surgical management of cleft lip (CL) or cleft lip and palate (CLP) aims to achieve harmonious lip and nasal symmetry while ensuring satisfactory ventilation. Postoperative nasal retainers are commonly used, though both duration of use and conformer type used vary widely. This study aimed to establish an inventory of current practices for primary cheilorhinoplasty and nasal retainer use in France.

Background: Two accepted designs exist for parallel-group cluster-randomised trials (CRTs). Closed-cohort designs follow the same individuals over time with a single recruitment period before randomisation, but face challenges in settings with high attrition. (Repeated) cross-sectional designs recruit at one or more timepoints before and/or after randomisation, collecting data from different individuals present in the cluster at these timepoints, but are unsuitable for assessment of individual change over time.

Background: Individuals with serum antibodies to citrullinated protein antigens (ACPA), rheumatoid factor, and symptoms, such as inflammatory joint pain, are at high risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis. In the arthritis prevention in the pre-clinical phase of rheumatoid arthritis with abatacept (APIPPRA) trial, we aimed to evaluate the feasibility, efficacy, and acceptability of treating high risk individuals with the T-cell co-stimulation modulator abatacept.

Methods: The APIPPRA study was a randomised, double-blind, multicentre, parallel, placebo-controlled, phase 2b clinical trial done in 28 hospital-based early arthritis clinics in the UK and three in the Netherlands.

Introduction: Maxillary surgery alone can be proposed for the surgical management of class III malocclusion, but anticipating outcomes for the labiomental muscle complex is challenging due to the mandibular autorotation phenomenon. The objective of this study was to quantify the mandibular and labiomental movements induced by maxillary osteotomy alone in the management of class III malocclusion according to different clinical and surgical variables.

Methods: The post-operative changes in mandibular and labiomental shapes were studied by geometric morphometry from the pre- and post-operative lateral cephalometric radiograph of 25 patients.

Objectives: Transitioning from non-outpatient orthognathic surgery to outpatient surgery is a new challenge, and it is essential to target the eligible population as precisely as possible. Several authors describe series of outpatient orthognathic surgery but do not include the reasons for their success or failure. The main aim of this study was to identify the factors significantly associated with "successful" outpatient orthognathic treatment.
