A low-cost and open-hardware portable 3-electrode sleep monitoring device.

To continue sleep research activities during the lockdown resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, experiments that were previously conducted in laboratories were shifted to the homes of volunteers. Furthermore, for extensive data collection, it is necessary to use a large number of portable devices. Hence, to achieve these objectives, we developed a low-cost and open-source portable monitor (PM) device capable of acquiring electroencephalographic (EEG) signals using the popular ESP32 microcontroller.

A New Ready-to-Eat Product Based on Enzymatically Peeled 'Hernandina' Clementine Segments and Citrus Syrup.

Ready-to-eat fresh fruit have an increasing presence in international markets due to their convenience and health benefits. However, these products are highly perishable and efficient technologies to increase their shelf life are needed. In the present research, different citrus fruit species and cultivars from organic farming were assessed to obtain enzymatically peeled citrus segments.

Preliminary approach to evaluate the drug-drug interaction potential of EST73502, a dual µ-opioid receptor partial agonist and σ1 receptor antagonist.

The potential for drug-drug interactions (DDI) of EST73502 was preliminary explored . EST73502 is a new chemical entity intended for oral pain treatment with dual sigma-1 receptor (σR) antagonism and μ-opioid receptor (MOR) partial agonism, that presents a promising potent analgesic activity.Several enzymes were involved in EST73502 metabolism catalysing the formation of different metabolites, CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 being the main ones.

Preliminary assessment of pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions of EST64401 and EST64514, two sigma-1 receptor antagonists.

EST64401 and EST64514 are two selective sigma-1 receptor ligands that showed a good profile in a lead optimization process for oral pain treatment. Their potential for pharmacokinetic-based drug-drug interactions was assessed to anticipate clinical interactions.Both compounds showed a low potential for CYP inhibition with percentages of inhibition <50% at 1 µM in recombinant human CYPs (CYP1A2, 2C9, 2C19, 2D6 and 3A4) and IC ≥75 µM for CYP3A4 and 2D6 in human liver microsomes.

Short Term Effect of Salt Shock on Ethylene and Polyamines Depends on Plant Salt Sensitivity.

In the present manuscript the short term effect (3-24 h) of a saline shock (NaCl 100 mM) on fresh weight, water content, respiration rate, ethylene production and Na, Cl, ACC and polyamine concentration was studied in four plant species with different salt sensitivity, pepper, lettuce, spinach, and beetroot. Higher reduction in fresh weight and water content as a consequence of saline shock was found in pepper and lettuce plants than in spinach and beetroot, the latter behaving as more salinity tolerant. In general, salinity led to rapid increases in respiration rate, ethylene production and ACC and polyamine (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) concentrations in shoot and root.

Pyrazolo[3,4-]pyrimidines as sigma-1 receptor ligands for the treatment of pain. Part 2: Introduction of cyclic substituents in position 4.

The replacement of acylamino by cyclic substituents in the position 4 of the pyrazolo[3,4-]pyrimidine scaffold, led to highly active sigma-1 receptor (σR) ligands. Phenyl or pyrazolyl groups were the best in terms of affinity for the σR and the 4-(1-methylpyrazol-5-yl) derivative, , was the most selective. Compound is also one of the best σR ligands ever described in terms of lipophilic ligand efficiency, which translates into a good physicochemical and ADMET profile.

Background: Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is characterized by port-wine stains (PWS) affecting the face, eyes, and central nervous system. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) is the standard treatment for PWS. Unfortunately, recurrence is frequent because of reformation and reperfusion of blood vessels.

Nutritional and antioxidant properties of wild edible plants and their use as potential ingredients in the modern diet.

Thirteen species of wild edible plants belonging to 11 botanical families consumed in the traditional Mediterranean diet were evaluated. Sanguisorba minor, Quercus ballota and Sedum sediforme showed the highest hydrophilic total antioxidant activity (H-TAA) and total phenols. Asparagus acutifolius, Allium ampeloprasum, Foeniculum vulgare and Malva sylvestris presented high levels of potassium, Malva and Asparagus are interesting due to their zinc content, and Urtica urens contains a high content of calcium.

Partial unilateral lentiginosis treated with alexandrite Q-switched laser: case report and review of the literature.

Partial unilateral lentiginosis (PUL) is a rare pigmentary disorder characterized by multiple lentigines grouped within an area of normal skin, often in a segmental pattern and appearing at birth or in childhood. There is no established standard treatment for this condition. We present two cases of PUL succesfully treated with alexandrite Q-switched laser.

Drug-induced lupus erythematosus.

Drug-induced lupus erythematosus (DILE) refers to a condition whose clinical, histological, and immunological features are similar to those seen in idiopathic lupus erythematosus but that occurs when certain drugs are taken and resolves after their withdrawal. Over 90 drugs have been linked to DILE to date and the list is growing. Like idiopathic lupus erythematosus, DILE has systemic, subacute cutaneous, and chronic cutaneous forms.

Obtaining and storage of ready-to-use segments from traditional orange obtained by enzymatic peeling.

The aim of this study was to optimize all parameters implied in the process of obtaining orange segments as minimally processed product by enzymatic peeling, from the method of segment obtaining to the storage conditions, and also to evaluate two films with different permeability. Enzymatic peeling was carried out by fruit infusion under vacuum conditions in a commercial preparation of pectinases and cellulases (Peelzym II). The best condition to obtain Cadenera segments by enzymatic peeling was 1 mL/L of Peelzym II applied at 53 kPa with three vacuum pulses of 2 min and a subsequent period of 30 min in the enzymatic solution at atmospheric pressure.

The effect of packaging in nitrogen (N₂) atmosphere or in air on the quality of peeled and roasted almond var. Guara during storage for 20 weeks at 20 °C ± 1 °C and 65-70% relative humidity (RH) was studied. No changes in the sugar, fat, protein or fiber contents were observed during the storage period nor in color.

Six edible wild fruits as potential antioxidant additives or nutritional supplements.

Total antioxidant activity of six non-cultivated but traditionally collected fruits from the south of Europe was assessed by measuring their ability to reduce the hydroxyl radical (OH) and hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)), and their Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC). This antioxidant activity was compared with that shown by the synthetic antioxidants BHA (E-320), BHT (E-321) and propyl gallate (E-310). Total phenolics, ascorbic acid and the carotenoid content of the fruits were also analyzed.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis related to pemetrexed and carboplatin with vitamin B12 and folic acid supplementation for advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

Background: Pemetrexed is a multitargeted antifolate initially approved as a single agent for the second-line treatment of locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer and more recently in the first-line setting combined with cisplatin. The combination of pemetrexed with carboplatin has been tested in several phase II clinical trials showing interesting antitumour activity with mild toxicity. Supplementation with folic acid and vitamin B12 during treatment with pemetrexed is recommended to reduce potential haematological and gastrointestinal adverse events.

Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune blistering disease characterized by the presence of IgG autoantibodies against Dsg3. Our aim was to investigate the molecular events implicated in the development and localization of apoptosis and acantholysis in PV. We used a passive transfer mouse model together with immunohistochemical (IHC) techniques and the TUNEL assay, with quantification analysis in the basal layer of the epidermis.

[Prolonged complete clinical remission in patients with severe pemphigus vulgaris after cycles of intravenous cyclophosphamide].

Background: Corticosteroids are the systemic treatment of choice in patients with pemphigus vulgaris, but chronic administration is associated with side effects. Intravenous treatment with cyclophosphamide can improve the clinical signs of pemphigus vulgaris.

Material And Methods: We prospectively studied 8 patients diagnosed with pemphigus vulgaris.

Summary Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune blistering disease produced by IgG autoantibodies against desmoglein (Dsg)3. Lesions on the skin and mucosa can, in rare cases, be induced by radiotherapy. We report a patient with a history of microprolactinoma and PV, who had only oral lesions from the beginning of her illness but 2 months after treatment with radiotherapy for a breast neoplasia, developed skin lesions limited to the irradiated area.

[Brachial plexus block for minimally invasive parathyroidectomy: report of 3 cases].

The brachial plexus block, either deep or superficial, is one of the anesthetic techniques used in parathyroidectomy. The block is easy to perform and has few hemodynamic side effects. Surgery can be carried out in an awake patient.
