The objective of this article is to describe a case of suspected zonisamide-induced immune-mediated polyarthritis (IMPA) and anterior uveitis in a dog. A 7-year-old male neutered Siberian Husky with a history of refractory idiopathic epilepsy was presented for cluster seizures. Following the addition of zonisamide to the antiepileptic regime, the dog developed new IMPA and anterior uveitis.

Previous studies indicate that participants with eating disorders show an attentional bias for the negatively valenced body parts of their own body. However, the neural basis underlying these processes has not been investigated. We conducted a preregistered combined functional MRI (fMRI)/eye tracking study and presented 35 women with binge eating disorder (BED) and 24 weight-matched control subjects (CG) with body part images of their own body and a weight-matched unknown body.

Acute kidney injury from presumptive intramural ureteral hemorrhage secondary to diphacinone rodenticide exposure in a dog.

Objective: To describe the clinical features and outcome of a dog with anticoagulant rodenticide (diphacinone) exposure, which was subsequently diagnosed with a coagulopathy characterized by hemoperitoneum, and presumptive ureteral wall hemorrhage contributing to acute kidney injury (AKI).

Case Summary: A 4-year-old, female neutered Australian Cattle Dog was evaluated for an acute onset of lethargy, decreased appetite, and a mild right thoracic limb lameness. Radiographs and point of care ultrasound demonstrated retroperitoneal and peritoneal effusion.

Neural correlates of body image processing in binge eating disorder.

Although body image disturbances play a central role in the development, maintenance and relapse of binge eating disorder (BED), studies investigating the neural basis underlying body processing in BED are still missing. To address this gap, we conducted a preregistered (German Clinical Trials Register [Deutsches Register Klinischer Studien; DRKS], Registration DRKS00008107) combined functional magnetic resonance (fMRI)/eye tracking study in which 38 women with BED and 22 healthy controls weight-matched for overall equivalence processed images of their own bodies, an unfamiliar weight-matched body, and visually matched nonbody control stimuli while performing a one-back task. Women with BED responded with higher left fusiform body area (FBA) activity than controls during body image processing.

The limits of automatic sensorimotor processing during word processing: investigations with repeated linguistic experience, memory consolidation during sleep, and rich linguistic learning contexts.

While a number of studies have repeatedly demonstrated an automatic activation of sensorimotor experience during language processing in the form of action-congruency effects, as predicted by theories of grounded cognition, more recent research has not found these effects for words that were just learned from linguistic input alone, without sensorimotor experience with their referents. In the present study, we investigate whether this absence of effects can be attributed to a lack of repeated experience and consolidation of the associations between words and sensorimotor experience in memory. To address these issues, we conducted four experiments in which (1 and 2) participants engaged in two separate learning phases in which they learned novel words from language alone, with an intervening period of memory-consolidating sleep, and (3 and 4) we employed familiar words whose referents speakers have no direct experience with (such as plankton).

Both heart rate variability-biofeedback (HRV-Bfb) and mindfulness-based interventions (MBI) have been empirically shown to reduce stress. This study compares these two interventions in the work context to a wait-list-control-group (WLC).

Sensitive detection of HO radicals produced in an atmospheric pressure plasma using Faraday rotation cavity ring-down spectroscopy.

Cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) is a well-established, highly sensitive absorption technique whose sensitivity and selectivity for trace radical sensing can be further enhanced by measuring the polarization rotation of the intracavity light by the paramagnetic samples in the presence of a magnetic field. In this paper, we highlight the use of this Faraday rotation cavity ring-down spectroscopy (FR-CRDS) for the detection of HO radicals. In particular, we use a cold atmospheric pressure plasma jet as a highly efficient source of HO radicals and show that FR-CRDS in the near-infrared spectral region (1506 nm) has the potential to be a useful tool for studying radical chemistry.

Little is known about the suitability of commercial test kits for isolating DNA of E. multilocularis from fox faeces and the performance of standard Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) protocols in relation to the quality of DNA extracted by these kits.

Mandibular reconstruction using computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing: an analysis of surgical results.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the accuracy of virtual surgical planning in mandibular reconstruction.

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective study involving 8 consecutive patients reconstructed with nonvascularized iliac crest bone grafts and free fibula osteomyocutaneous flaps. DICOM data from a maxillofacial skeleton computed tomography (CT) scan were sent to a medical modeling company and used to map the mandibular resection, anatomically place the mandibular reconstruction plate, and create surgical guides.

Motivation: Oligonucleotide fingerprinting of ribosomal RNA genes (OFRG) is a procedure that sorts rRNA gene (rDNA) clones into taxonomic groups through a series of hybridization experiments. The hybridization signals are classified into three discrete values 0, 1 and N, where 0 and 1, respectively, specify negative and positive hybridization events and N designates an uncertain assignment.
