α-Selective Glucosylation Can Be Achieved with 6---Nitrobenzoyl Protection.

A systematic study of the effect of various 6--acyl groups on anomeric selectivity in glucosylations with thioglycoside donors was conducted. All eight different esters were found to induce moderate-to-high α-selectivity in glucosylation with l-menthol with the best being 6---nitrobenzoyl. The effect appears to be general across various glucosyl acceptors, glucosyl donor types, and modes of activation.

Electronic brachytherapy management of atypical fibroxanthoma: report of 8 lesions.

Purpose: To evaluate the suitability of treating atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX), an uncommon skin malignancy, with electronic brachytherapy.

Material And Methods: From Feb 2013 to Sep 2014, we were referred a total of 8 cases of AFX in 7 patients, all involving the scalp. All of them were treated with electronic brachytherapy 50 Kev radiations (Xoft Axxent, Fremont, California).

High-Turnover Aromatic C-H Borylation Catalyzed by POCOP-Type Pincer Complexes of Iridium.

The catalytic C-H borylation of arenes with HBpin (pin = pinacolate) using POCOP-type pincer complexes of Ir has been demonstrated, with turnover numbers exceeding 10 000 in some cases. The selectivity of C-H activation was based on steric preferences and largely mirrored that found in other Ir borylation catalysts. Catalysis in the (POCOP)Ir system depends on the presence of stoichiometric quantities of sacrificial olefin, which is hydrogenated to consume the H2 equivalents generated in the borylation of C-H bonds with HBpin.

Triflyloxy-substituted carboranes as useful weakly coordinating anions.

New carborane anions carrying one or three triflyloxy substituents are described. The mono-triflyloxy substituted carborane can be halogenated to give pentabromo and decachloro derivatives with preservation of the B-OTf linkage. The use of [HCB11Cl10OTf](-) as a weakly coordinating anion is demonstrated.

{2,6-Bis[(2,6-diisopropyl-phosphan-yl)-oxy]-4-fluoro-phenyl-κ(3)P,C(1),P'}(1H-pyrazole-κN(2))nickel(II) hexa-fluoro-phosphate.

The title compound, [Ni(C(18)H(30)FO(2)P(2))(C(3)H(4)N(2))]PF(6), was prepared by halide abstraction with TlPF(6) in the presence of CH(3)CN in CDCl(3) from the respective neutral pincer chlorido analogue followed by addition of pyrazole. The PO-C-OP pincer ligand acts in typical trans-P(2) tridentate fashion to generate a distorted square-planar nickel structure. The Ni-N(pyrazole) distance is 1.

Reliability of the ISO wheelchair cushion test for loaded contour depth.

Standardized test methods that report cushion characteristics and performance can simplify cushion selection by helping clinicians and users identify types of cushions that may meet a user's needs. The loaded contour depth (LCD) test is one of the test methods included in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards for wheelchair cushions. LCD measures the depth of immersion into a cushion.

Reliability of bench tests of interface pressure.

Determination of an appropriate wheelchair cushion to optimize loading on buttock tissue is crucial to pressure ulcer prevention. Standardized test methods aim to simplify selection by helping clinicians and users identify a class or category of cushions that will meet the important medical need of adequate pressure distribution. The objective of this project was to determine the test-retest reliability of interface pressure measurements taken using bench tests as opposed to human subject tests.

The interface between ophthalmology and optometric vision therapy.

Considerable disparity lies between ophthalmologic impressions of optometric vision therapy, and the reality of optometric vision therapy as practiced in the United States. The viewpoint shared by ophthalmology in particular, and the medical field in general, is one that is filtered through organizational policy statements and the isolated experiences of influential individual practitioners. This has resulted in a skewed portrayal of optometric vision therapy.

Characteristics of tinnitus induced by head injury.

Objective: To determine if the characteristics of tinnitus produced by head trauma are specific and exclusive when compared with other origins of tinnitus.

Design: Retrospective study using clinic test results and data from the Tinnitus Data Registry compiled from questionnaires, interviews, and testing. Tinnitus produced by head injury was compared with tinnitus of mixed origins, including no known origin.

Clinical evaluation of Purilens, an ultraviolet light contact lens care system.

Purilens is a new contact lens care system that uses ultraviolet light and subsonic turbulence for lens cleaning and disinfection. In a single hands-off process using only preservative-free sterile saline, the lenses are ready to wear after a 15-minute cycle. This study was designed to test the safety of this contact lens care system.
