Article Synopsis
  • - This study explored the creation and structural characteristics of self-assembled GaSb/AlP quantum dots (SAQDs) using experimental techniques, focusing on their growth through molecular beam epitaxy on GaP and GaP/Si substrates.
  • - The research found that while SAQDs exhibit almost complete plastic strain relaxation, dislocations formed in GaP substrates significantly decrease luminescence efficiency, unlike those on GaP/Si substrates which maintain performance likely due to different types of dislocations.
  • - The GaP/Si-based SAQDs have a unique type II energy spectrum with an indirect bandgap, contributing to a long potential charge storage time of over 10 years, indicating their promise for applications in universal memory cells.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores using low-temperature (LT) GaAs layers as a method to reduce dislocation defects in GaAs/Si heterostructures by investigating the effects of these layers and post-growth annealing.
  • - Results showed that introducing LT-GaAs layers and performing cyclic annealing significantly reduced dislocation density, surface roughness, and non-radiative recombination centers in the GaAs/Si regions.
  • - The improvements in the quality of near-surface GaAs layers are attributed to elastic deformations causing dislocation line bending and gallium vacancies diffusing into the GaAs layers, making these heterostructures suitable for high-quality light-emitting applications with quantum dots.

AlGaAsSb and AlGaAs films as thick as 1 μm with Al content as high as 60% were successfully grown by low-temperature (200 °C) MBE. To overcome the well-known problem of growth disruption due to a high aluminum content and a low growth temperature, we applied intermittent growth with the temperature elevation to smooth out the emerging roughness of the growth front. Post-growth annealing of the obtained material allowed us to form a developed system of As or AsSb nanoinclusions, which occupy 0.

There are yet no optimal criteria to be applied in rehabilitative sports medicine for the estimation of the restoration of the athletes' physical conditions to enable them to return to their professional activities. The primary objective of the present study was to develop specific methods for the assessment of the physical performance of the athletes safe enough for the use at any stage of testing and sufficiently informative to give idea of the athlete's condition. To this effect, we compared the effectiveness of various testing procedures specific for different sports.

The primary objective of the present study was to estimate the effectiveness of the new methods of physical rehabilitation for mountain ski athletes designed to optimize and accelerate restoration of their professional capabilities after arthroscopic plastic reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). This open controlled prospective study involved 26 alpine skiers aged from 18 to 25 who were recruited into the regular follow up program based at our Centre during the last 3 years. The athletes proved able to start balance training on the Biodex platform 4 weeks earlier than with the use of the conventional approach.

The structure of low-temperature grown GaAs with equidistant δ-layers of Sb and P was studied by analysis of the X-ray curves, which was supported by optical absorption measurements and transmission electron microscopy. The simultaneous fitting of the X-ray reflectivity curve and diffraction ones for GaAs (004) and GaAs (115) crystallographic planes provided reliable information about the period of δ-layer superlattice, thickness of the Sb and P δ-layers, and amount of excess As. Variation of these parameters was documented when excess As precipitated into As nanoinclusions upon annealing.

The first data illustrating work efficiency of health centres in this country are presented. They suggest the necessity to change both the strategy of activities and the patient population. Studies on variability of cardiac rhythms and characteristics of vegetative status in adolescents showed that the equipment used is poorly adapted to the purpose.

The authors present the results of psychosomatic status evaluation performed in 159 patients with biliary dyskinesia, chronic gastritis, and somatoform disturbances. The examination was done using questionnaires, scales, and computer methods. Computer diagnostic methods were proved to be most effective and allowed for quantitative evaluation of psychosomatic disturbances in patients with gastrointestinal diseases.

The purpose of the investigation was to assess the possibility to control free radical oxidation in patients with cardiovascular pathologies with the help of vetoron. This was the first attempt to study effects of a beta-carotene (vetoron) on lipid peroxidation and the activity of antioxidant defense enzymes in flying personnel with cardiovascular pathologies (hypertension and neurocirculatory dystonia). Therapeutic effect of the medicament was evaluated by its action on peroxide metabolism (malonic dialdehyde, acyl hydroperoxides and trien conjugates, Schiff bases) and stimulation of the antioxidant defense enzymes (catalase and glutathione reductase).

The tasks required for the preservation of the health of rescuers can be accomplished with the creation of a system for medical examinations and rehabilitation that functions with commonly used methodological and organizational principles. Absence of such a common methodological platform often results in the disqualification of members of the special contingent and a mistake in the evaluation process that gives birth to serious medical and social problems. The specific character of the rescuers' activities during conditions associated with extraordinary situations necessitates the development of criteria-based evaluation systems for determining the prognosis, and the clinical, diagnostic, normative, and legal, medical, and social criteria that include methodological approaches that define the criteria to be used in the examinations.

Findings of diagnostics and treatment of 198 pilots suffering from combined polyposis in the stomach and large intestine are presented. Different therapeutic tactics should be chosen for these patients. Annual dynamic evaluation should be made in case of a benign course and without an upward tendency, whereas diagnosed villus polyps, villus-tubular adenoma with the second or third phase of dysplasia, adenomatous polyps with regional 2nd or 3d phase dysplasia will require early polypectomy to be followed by yearly dynamic endoscopy.

Reported are results of treating 53 pilots with the irritated large intestine syndrome verified by endoscopic and morphologic investigations. Salozinal proved to be highly helpful to young patients. One of the therapeutic mechanisms is blocking of the cycloxygenase path circumstantially confirmed by normalization of lipid peroxidation and AOS owing to salozinal.

Data on the modern mechanisms of forming the cholelithiasis and the new methods of its treatment are presented. There have been examined 337 pilots of the helicopter aviation with the professional length of service of 10 year and more, the cholelithiasis has been revealed in 107 cases. In the course of treatment there have been used the preparations of ursodeoxycholic acid (urosan), remote shock-wave lithotripsy and laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Data of analysis of the role of vibration in the development of hepatobiliary pathology in helicopter pilots are reported. Vibration was found to drastically deteriorate colloid-osmotic qualities of the bile and increase the lithogenesis risk. Exposure to vibration over 10 and more years of the flying career may instigate cholelithiasis.

Causes for increased gastric and duodenal morbidity were analyzed in 435 patients. Chelibacteriosis was shown to be one of the key factors of development and recurrence of chronic duodenitis which which, in its turn, leads to physical disability retirement of flying personnel. The role of determining the immune status in dynamics in predicting recurrence, and effectiveness of therapy was confirmed.
