Bacterial collagen, produced via recombinant DNA methods, offers advantages including consistent purity, customizable properties, and reduced allergy potential compared to animal-derived collagen. Its controlled production environment enables tailored features, making it more sustainable, non-pathogenic, and compatible with diverse applications in medicine, cosmetics, and other industries. Research has focused on the engineering of collagen-like proteins to improve their structure and function.

SBS patients can have significant side effects and complications, the etiology of which remains ill-defined. Thus, facilitating intestinal adaptation in SBS remains a major research focus.

Oleaginous yeast species have been targeted for commercial production of microbial oils. Among all the oleaginous yeasts examined in a previous comparative study, Cutaneotrichosporon oleaginosus showed the highest lipid productivity.

Little is known about the decision-making processes that underly differential growth. In this study, we developed a screen to identify decision making mutants by deploying two tools that have been used in decision theory: a well-defined yet limited budget, as well as conflict-of-interest scenarios.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAmyloid self-assembly is linked to numerous devastating cell-degenerative diseases. However, designing inhibitors of this pathogenic process remains a major challenge. Cross-interactions between amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) and islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP), key polypeptides of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D), have been suggested to link AD with T2D pathogenesis.

The primary aim of this study was to identify HLA alleles associated with resistance or susceptibility to CMV reactivation.
Methods: We studied 586 adults who underwent allo-HSCT for high-risk hematological malignancies.
Neural precursor cell (NPC) dysfunction has been consistently implicated in autism. Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived NPCs from two autism groups (three idiopathic [I-ASD] and two 16p11.2 deletion [16pDel]) were used to investigate if proliferation is commonly disrupted.

Introduction: Sexual violence against women is a major public health problem around the world. Globally, around 7% of women have experienced sexual violence by a non-partner in their lifetime. Women who have experienced sexual violence are more likely to suffer from a sleep disorder, anxiety disorder, high blood pressure, and symptoms of depression.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFatty acid hydratases are unique to microorganisms. Their native function is the oxidation of unsaturated C-C bonds to enable detoxification of environmental toxins. Within this enzyme family, the oleate hydratases (Ohys), which catalyze the hydroxylation of oleic acid to 10-(R)-hydroxy stearic acid (10-HSA) have recently gained particular industrial interest.

Currently, data related to molecular aspects of the metabolic utilisation of oligomeric carbohydrates are sparse. In addition, comprehensive proteomic information for C.

There is only one case reported in the literature who presented during pregnancy. Described here is a woman who presented at five months of gestation with recurrence of pineoblastoma, who had previously defaulted adjuvant therapy following surgical decompression.

We evaluate the impact of various factors on survival outcomes post-transplant in MF. Data of 89 consecutive MF patients (primary 47%) who underwent allo-HCT between 2005 and 2018 was evaluated.

Background: Health care in private healthcare organizations is a balancing act between business excellence and quality outcomes in practice. This complex activity establishes the existence of quality of care climate so as the pedestal of quality of care decisions bring health care excellence. In healthcare, Quality of care is not linear but multi-dimensional, with myriad challenges.

We evaluated the effect of cryopreservation of grafts on allogeneic transplant outcomes using related, unrelated and haploidentical donors, including 958 patients, age 18-74 years (median 55) and using PBSC for various hematologic malignancies. Fresh grafts were received by 648 (68%) patients, 310 (32%) received cryopreserved.

Methods And Materials: This randomized, open-label, phase 3 trial was completed at a single research institute. Patients receiving curative radiation for head and neck cancer were randomized into 2 groups of 75 patients each by computer-generated permuted block random assignment.
We explore risk factors and impacts of post-transplant EBV-Reactivation (EBV-R) and PTLD in 270 patients that underwent RIC alloHCT using ATG-PTCy and cyclosporine for GVHD prophylaxis. Twenty-five (12%) patients had probable ( = 7) or proven ( = 18) PTLD. Patients were managed with reduction of immunosuppression and 22 with weekly rituximab (375 mg/m IV).

Moreover, a majority of these developmental disorders have multifactorial or idiopathic (unknown) causes making them difficult to model using traditional methods of genetic alteration. Examination of the brains of individuals with ASD and other developmental disorders in both post-mortem and MRI studies shows defects that are suggestive of dysregulation of embryonic and early postnatal development.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAutism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is remarkably heterogeneous at the clinical, neurobiological, and genetic levels. ASD can also affect language, a uniquely human capability, and is caused by abnormalities in brain development. Traditionally obtaining biologically relevant human cells to study ASD has been extremely difficult, but new technologies including iPSC-derived neurons and high-throughput omic techniques now provide new, exciting tools to uncover the cellular and signaling basis of ASD etiology.
