Surgical approach in the management of ear keloids: our experience with 30 patients.

Background: Ear keloids are benign, fibrous proliferations due to excessive collagen synthesis and deposition. It is a popular practice to pierce earlobes for decorative earrings and adornment; this might trigger the keloid process. Although there are varied treatment modalities, it is unsatisfactory and has always been a challenge.

Low Vitamin D in Psoriasis: Reality or Myth?

Context: Psoriasis is a chronic, systemic disease with the beneficial effect of topical vitamin D3 analogs, known for a long time. Low levels of vitamin D are increasingly found to be associated with the initial development of some autoimmune diseases. There are contradictory reports of low serum levels of vitamin D3 in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.

Correlation between Disease Severity, Family Income, and Quality of Life in Psoriasis: A Study from South India.

Background: Psoriasis is a common, chronic inflammatory disorder of skin characterized by a long clinical course with exacerbations, remissions, and relapses. The cost of therapy and psychological burden of the disease depends on disease severity. The objective of this study was to assess the quality of life and financial status and to correlate the financial burden of the disease with the severity of psoriasis and quality of life.

A Case Report of Krukenbergs Tumor with Cutaneous Seeding.

A 47-year-old female patient presented with painless skin colored and erythematous papules coalesced to form plaques over lower abdomen for 10 days. She had undergone exploratory laparotomy with hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy 1 month ago, and histopathology was reported as Krukenbergs tumor. She was getting evaluated for primary, when she was referred to dermatology.

Immunohistochemical expression of phosphatase and tensin homolog in histologic gradings of oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Context: Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) is a tumor suppressor gene located on chromosome 10q23. PTEN has its major function in the regulation of cell adhesion, cell cycle arrest, migration, apoptosis programming, and differentiation. This genomic region suffers loss of heterozygosity in many human cancers.

Rhinoscleroma of nose extruding into oral cavity.

Rhinoscleroma (RS) is a rare chronic granulomatous disease of the upper airways affecting nasal cavity, nasopharynx, and paranasal sinuses. Klebsiella rhinoscleromatis is the causative agent of this infection and Mikulicz cells are specific to this lesion. RS is commonly seen in poorer regions such as Central Africa, South America, Middle East, India and Indonesia.

Centroblastic variant of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: Case report and review of literature.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) making up about approximately 30% of all NHL. Its occurrence in the mandible is very rare. Histopathologically, five variants of DLBCL have been recognized among which centroblastic variant is the one with better prognosis.

Differences in the palatal rugae shape in two populations of India.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate differences in the shape of the palatal rugae in two populations of India and develop discriminant function to identify the populations based on rugae shape.

Methods: Thirty plaster casts from each population group, equally distributed between the sexes and belonging to similar age-group, were examined for rugae shape (straight, wavy, curved, unification and circular) and their incidence recorded. Association between rugae shape and population as well as rugae shape and sex were tested using chi-square analysis and discriminant function developed using SPSS 10.
