The Prevalence of Congenital Color Vision Abnormality Among Patients Attending a Tertiary Eye Care Center in Southern India.

Background and objective Color vision abnormality is a condition where the faculty to identify one or more primary colors is either defective (anomalous) or absent (anopia). Occupations like armed forces, merchant navy, navigation, and police and fire services require normal color vision. There is a scarcity of data in the literature regarding the prevalence of congenital color vision abnormality in patients in South India.

Traumatic Optic Neuropathy: Analysis of Demographic and Clinical Parameters Over Three Years in a Tertiary Care Hospital in India.

Background Treatment options for traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) are limited and the role of steroids in the treatment of TON is still controversial. Hence this study was planned to highlight the role of steroids in the treatment of TON. Purpose The study aims to highlight the epidemiological and clinical characteristics, as well as the role of steroids, in TON cases seen during a three-year period at a tertiary care center in India.

Corkscrewing of retinal arterioles leading to diagnosis of coarctation of aorta.

Coarctation of aorta (CoA) usually leads to elevation of blood pressure above the site of obstruction and this elevated blood pressure probably gets transferred and is reflected in the retinal arterioles producing certain signs of hypertensive retinopathy. Fundus examination helps in differentiating hypertension due to CoA from other causes of juvenile hypertension, as corkscrewing of retinal arterioles is seen only in CoA but not in other conditions. A 16 year hypertensive male who was on antihypertensive treatment presented for routine checkup.

Aripiprazole-induced transient myopia: A rare entity.

Aripiprazole is a new drug for the treatment of adults with schizophrenia. Ocular side effects of aripiprazole are very rare. Review of literature revealed few cases of aripiprazole-induced myopia.

Clozapine-induced cataract in a young female.

A variety of systemic drugs including corticosteroids, amiodarone and antipsychotics have been known to cause cataract formation. Typical antipsychotics such as chlorpromazine have been reported to cause cataract formation in varying rates ranging from 22% to 80%. Cataract as an adverse effect resulting from the long term use of atypical antipsychotic has rarely been mentioned in literature, and there is only a single case report of cataract formation from prolonged use of clozapine.

Ocular Manifestations of Venomous Snake Bite over a One-year Period in a Tertiary Care Hospital.

Purpose: Ocular manifestations in snake-bite injuries are quite rare. However, the unusual presentations, diagnosis and their management can pose challenges when they present to the ophthalmologist. Early detection of these treatable conditions can prevent visual loss in these patients who are systemically unstable and are unaware of their ocular condition.
