Modernisation of industrial and transportation sector would have not imaginable without the help of fossil fuels, but constant usage has led to many environmental concerns. As a step forward, for safer next generation living we are forced to look into green fuels like bio‑hydrogen and higher alcohols. This review mainly focuses on bio‑hydrogen production via biological pathways, genetic improvements, knowledge gap, economics, and future directions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare self-confidence levels and clinical performance scores of dental students trained through traditional versus comprehensive methods in India.
  • Students trained with the comprehensive method reported higher self-confidence (3.41) compared to those using the traditional method (3.07), with statistical significance (p <0.05).
  • However, while traditional training led to a slightly higher median clinical performance score (2.88) than comprehensive training (2.44), the difference wasn’t statistically significant (p = 0.460), suggesting the potential benefits of combining both training approaches.

Article Synopsis
  • Systematic reviews (SRs) are crucial for evidence-based dentistry but are underrepresented in dental literature, prompting a study to analyze Indian dentists' contributions to SRs from 1948-2022.
  • An electronic search in the PubMed database revealed 439 SRs related to oral health published by Indian dentists, with a notable increase in publications in 2021.
  • The majority of these SRs focused on Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, indicating a growing but still limited presence of SRs in Indian dental research, highlighting the need for improvement.

Background: Peri-cervical dentin (PCD) and its reinforcement play a crucial role in the fracture resistance of root canal-treated teeth.

Aims: The aim of this study was to compare the fracture resistance of dual-cure, nano-hybrid, and short-fiber reinforced composite resins restored PCD with conventional hybrid composite (CHC) resin restored endodontically treated mandibular premolars.

Settings And Design: Academic, study.

Telomeres are non-coding nucleoprotein structures consisting of a highly conserved tandem repeat DNA sequence that caps the ends of chromosomes in eukaryotes. Telomeres confer chromosomal stability, protect the genome from nucleolytic degradation, avoid aberrant recombination and improper repair, and prevent random fusion of chromosomes. The end-replication problem results in telomere shortening with every cell division, eventually leading to cellular senescence and aging.

Empathy is vital in ensuring the quality of the patient-clinician relationship. Empathy in the health care setting is the ability to understand a patient's experiences and feelings and communicate this understanding for better clinical outcomes in dental treatments. The study aimed to compare levels of empathy in post-graduate dental students across the different years of the master's degree course.

Case: We present a case of ankylosing spondylitis with sagittal imbalance and having a suspicious Andersson lesion (AL) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at D12-L1. The segment did not reveal any potential mobility on erect radiographs and supine MRI. L2 pedicle subtraction osteotomy was planned.

We report a case of spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea in a patient on maintenance hemodialysis. There was no previous history of trauma or surgery. Secondary hyperparathyroidism due to progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and a rise in intracranial pressure resulted in spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea.

Background: Bio-film formation is a natural process in the oral environment, but needs to be controlled through regular brushing in order to prevent the development of caries and periodontal diseases.

Material And Methods: A wide variety of dentifrices of complementary and alternative medicinal systems are available in the market which claims superior plaque control. A randomized controlled double-blinded concurrent parallel clinical trial was conducted with the objective to evaluate and compare the clinical effectiveness of three commercially available dentifrices of complementary and alternative medicine systems with that of a placebo dentifrice on Gingival Index (GI) and Plaque Index (PI) scores after 15, 30, 45 and 60 days of usage among 80 adults aged 35-44 years.

Telomere attrition and mitochondrial DNA variations are implicated in the biological aging process and genomic stability can be influenced by nutritional factors. This study aims to analyze the relative telomere length (rTL) and mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtCN) in aged individuals and their association with plasma folate and vitamin B12 levels. This community-based cross-sectional study involves 428 subjects (<60 years: 242 & ≥60 years: 186).

Background: Although regular patient education regarding the periodontal health/disease is advocated as a means of improving oral health, impregnable associations of periodontal knowledge and attitude with periodontal status have not been demonstrated.

Materials And Methods: In a cross-sectional study conducted, 2400 participants were surveyed using a specially designed pretested pro forma to evaluate the knowledge and attitude concerning periodontal health and disease. The oral exanimation included recording of oral hygiene index, gingival index (GI), community periodontal index (CPI), and loss of attachment.

The increasing acceptance of ready to eat food generates demand on development of active and intelligent food packaging material. Even though many polymers have been used for the packaging, they have limitations for broad applications. Among the various polymers, Poly Vinyl Alcohol is a promising film forming polymer with highly flexible, emulsifying and adhesive properties.

Automatic segmentation of ischemic stroke lesion volumes from multi-spectral Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) sequences plays a vital role in quantifying and locating the lesion region. Most existing methods mainly rely on designing hand-crafted features followed by a classifier model for ischemic stroke lesion segmentation. Design of these features requires complex domain knowledge and often lacks the ability to differentiate between the stroke lesions and the normal classes.

Carbon dots doped with sulfur and nitrogen (S,N-CDs) were utilised to design a paper-stripe based fluorescent probe for the detection of bilirubin. The S,N-CDs were synthesized through a microwave assisted route by using citric acid as carbon source and L-cysteine as a source of nitrogen and sulfur. The S,N-CDs exhibit bright blue fluorescence emission with a peak at 452 nm.

We put forth our opinion regarding the enhanced plasticity and modulation of mechanical properties of polymeric films obtained through electrospinning process in this article. In majority of the pharmaceutical, biomedical, and packaging applications, it is desirable that polymer based matrices should be soft, flexible, and have a moderate toughness. In order to convert inflexible and brittle polymers, adjuvants in the form of plasticizers are added to improve the flexibility and smoothness of solvent casted polymer films.

Background: Dentistry, dealing with teeth and supporting tissues in the oral cavity is not only an ever-evolving science but also an art combined with good eye-hand coordination. It not only encompasses clinical and theoretical skills which play a crucial role in the success of therapy but also a lot of intrinsic work is accomplished in dentistry. In a journey to fulfill the above accomplishments and for facilitating early diagnosis of pathologies which usually go unnoticed, a clearer and magnified field of vision are also essential.

Introduction: Reliable profound mandibular block anesthesia is questionable when depositing the anesthetic solution at the lingula. The Gow-Gates technique is an useful alternative to the classical inferior alveolar nerve block and the incidence of unsuccessful anesthesia may be as high as classical technique. The aim of this study is to compare the clinical efficacy, degree of patient acceptability, advantages, disadvantages and limitations of the classical and Gow-Gates techniques for providing anesthesia in patients undergoing bilateral symmetrical surgical removal of impacted mandibular third molar under local anesthesia.
